You keep my attention rapt
Your tender words
a symphony of silence.
Come to me,
flourish in ecstasy;
lavish onto me two things
In copious simplicity:
Love,
That I may revel in splendor
and Quiet,
That I may rest at peace

The assignment:
"Write a poem in which you invoke or address--using the pronoun "you"--an absent "other." This other can be from the natural, the social, the mythological, or the inanimate realm, but it is critical that you create in the poem a sense of dynamic sparation, or what Simic calls, "the longing of One for the Other." IMPORTANT STIPULATION: in the spirit of courting the "Other" -- you must use in your poem at least 9 words culled from other people's[sic] wordlists."
The words I use are above.
