Flames bellow as darkness looms forth,
Darkness that berates your eyes,
Crucified in a second of judgement,
How shall you carry on from this?
Shattered glass frozen in midair,
A quiet second for guilt to sink in,
Blood splattered on all those who care,
A love weakened by your careless sin,
And there it was, a sign that didn’t sink in,
Round and red stating the speed limit,
Now you wish you hadn’t passed it so casually,
Maybe then that girl wouldn’t be dead,
The blue lights fall numb to your soul,
Tears drying inside your tainted heart,
For now you hate yourself as much as others,
And evil finds its own way in,
Bless the little things like past memories,
When you were worthy of receiving sympathy,
Now a shame hangs around your neck,
That no punishment could ever match,
It’s funny how time cures all things,
Except for the things you hold close to your heart,
Ten years on and you’re still feeling the guilt,
In a moment of time that got lost in the dark

Powerful write. It's amazing how some mistakes that people do in the past, the guilt can stay with them for a long time. Always wondering what could have been had they made different choices that day. While time can heal some wounds, some things can stay with us for what may seem like forever. Thanks for sharing such a dark, powerful write.
