Once upon a time, in the steamy river city of Brisbane, there lived a pretty fucked up but very gorgeous emo boy. His name was Tyler and he was considered to be every girl’s view of perfection at his high school. Tyler however was gay and only had eyes for another emo boy. His name was Matt. Matt was Tyler’s view of perfection but the only problem was was that Matt had a bit of a violent temper and it wasn’t uncommon for Tyler to see him sitting outside the Principal’s office.
One day Tyler was introduced to Matt and it wasn’t long before they became an item. Tyler loved Matt, but he couldn’t understand why he had to be so violent. He would cry himself to sleep at night and wish that Matt wouldn’t be so hurtful.
One day on the train to school he decided to speak to his best friend, Emma and ask her for some advice. She told him that he needed to tell Matt that he was hurting him and that he needed to change. Tyler thought this through in his head and decided to tell Matt how he felt once he got to school. He was really scared though and wanted to have someone by his side for support so Emma volunteered to come along in case Tyler got into any trouble. Despite her height she was very strong and had on more than one occasion broken Matt’s jaw during an argument.
Matt didn’t understand why Tyler felt this way when he told him and became very furious. The two of them got into a heated argument, which escalated quickly into something worse. Matt punched Tyler and split his lip, ripping his piercing out in the process. Emma quickly stepped in and punched Matt, knocking him back so Tyler could get away. When Matt got back on his feet he shoved Emma out of the way and went after Tyler.
With blood running down his chin Tyler ran for it, the soles of his converse slapping the pavement loudly as he tried to escape. He ran through the quad, weaving in and out of startled students and pushed his way through the twin glass doors that lead into the North corridor. Tears blurred his vision as he mounted the stairs that lead to the Library corridor and a hidey-hole he had found in year eight when he wanted to escape the other kids who always picked on him. He never thought he’d have to use it to hide from the one he loved, from the one who had only just last night promised to love him forever. He slipped into an alcove and, crying gut-wrenching sobs and holding his head in his hands, slid down to the floor.
When Matt appeared before him half crying and half shaking he instinctively cowered back into the corner and watched him carefully. He knelt down in front of Tyler and mouthed. ‘I’m, sorry,’ into his neck. Tyler wrapped his arms around Matt’s neck and shook his head. He told him that it didn’t matter and the he loved him. He said that he was sorry for telling him to change. Matt pushed Tyler’s fringe out of his face and kissed him softly on the mouth.
It was at that moment when Emma staggered around the corner, clutching at her arm. When she saw the two boys she just shook her head and sadly walked away, leaving them both to it. She’d never understand why Tyler would always forgive Matt when he got violent and she never would, all she could do was be scared for him and hope that one day everything would work out to be a happy ending.
