The last cowboy lord

Long ago where the days of the cowboy
With his pistols and his steed
Long ago were the western taverns
where not all men where driven by greed
Now though the towns are ghostly
Lost are the cowboys of old
Save for the one who you can see right now
Whose heart could never be sold
He walks down past lonely tavern
Steps past quiet tumble weed lanes
though his gun is empty his heart is heavy
He longs for the good old days
But he is the last and so he goes
He mounts his horse for the final time
Now he rides off into that beloved western dust
That he always thought so fine
He rides towards his long dead friends
He rides into the sun
He rides to be free of this world of men
To join his fellows this very last one
This lord among the cowboys
Who long has stood so tall
But now its over and now he leaves
He had given life its all

    I Can Clearly See

James Arness riding off into the sunset as Marshal Matt Dillion, from the TV show Gunsmoke. Probably way before your time.

Excellent use of imagery that goes hand in hand with the theme of the contest. Most Impressive!!!!!!!!

I would like to say thank you for taking time to enter my contest. May your poetry always flow easily and be a blessing to others. Good Luck!
