The Quest

Getting up early in the morning,
He rises from the slumber of night,
Escaping the darkness of his dreams,
To find the sweet, divine light.
But a decade, decade and one he has lived,
And taught much, has he been.
A search yielding many answers,
From allies, enemies, and friends.

Another day to add to the list,
Of seeking that ever evading unicorn,
The ancient stag of logic and reason,
The truth of why we are born.
Some tell him he is meant to serve,
Still others, futile lives we live.
Yet of all doctrines he asks,
On what authority do you give?

Have you laid eyes on the God you serve?
Have you seen what end awaits mankind?
And where did you first learn to see?
How do you know you are not blind?
Does not everyone believe as you,
That an answer sufficient has been found?
So why is your belief sincere and true,
And if so, on what grounds?

If there is a god, then why does evil reside?
If there is no god, then why does goodness abide?
Is there such thing as truth, and where hence must I go?
Would you, yourself walk a path, that in truth you don't know?
It is but belief and perception,
All the same, only with different measure.
One man's lie is another's truth.
Just as one man's trash is another's treasure.

If you can, then answer me now.
For I am the man that seeks,
Show me the counsel of truth,
Show me the reality of what you speak.
The challenge before you is great,
For there is much to be accounted for,
The rhyme and reason of the body,
The existence of meaning, mankind's core.

Can you tell me why the grass grows green,
During the spring every year?
Why mankind's heart grows darker,
When in the presence of ignorance and fear?
Can you show me where time begins,
Or whether it will truly end?
Why we continually burn and destroy,
Only to return again to mend?

I don't care about your beliefs,
Or what you think to be right.
Nor do I care about the benefits,
Of joining you, your cause, your fight.
It is not happiness I seek,
Nor is it any religion I pursue.
In the end, all that I ask,
Is what in this grande place is true?

Does anyone else feel as this, and if so, have you gotten anywhere with it?
