You Light Up My Life

(My Poetic Interpretation of Debbie Boone's You Light Up My Life for a contest)

When you walk into a room
Your light dissolves the strife

And you've done the same for me
Since you walked into my life

You've given me so much strength
I know I can go on

All alone in the darkness

Even lifelong fears are gone

Other lonely girls tell me

Keep drifting on your own
But you say we'll find ourselves
Turn the boat for shore and home

You’re a song I can’t let go
One I keep deep inside
That comforts me and tells me

Our love cannot be denied

Now I’m waking up to smiles
A love that I can't hide

I waited so long for you
You're the love that turned the tide

Author notes

The contest prompt was to "poetically interpret a cheesy song" - I thought this one was done to death - "You light up my life, you give me hope - to carry on", but I did like it the first time I heard it. ab, aa rhyme scheme

Please tell me what you think

this song is from the 70's!

oh well... interesting interpretation, I'd have to say pretty spot on in what she was aiming for with the original... I like the ending... I don't know if it's intended to be but I found it somewhat humorous and definitely clever...

the rhythm in the beginning seems a little unstable, kind of fluctuating... feel free to edit up until the closing of the contest or feel free to ignore my suggestions...
