“All Their Blood Flowed Bright Red"

No matter what year or war it was shed.
Our holiday's are for all heroes, of all wars.
Remembering all of those who gave their all
Both the living and the dead.

From George Washington and the Revolution
That gave us freedom and our Constitution.
You are not forgotten you Minute Men of freedom,
Your Red Blood lies on hallowed ground,
Where you fought Cornwallis and the British Crown.
So it is said, for freedoms call
Your Blood Flowed The Brightest Red of All.

The Civil War placed brother against brother
In a Campaign to free the slaves.
Names like Gettysburg, Vicksburg and Antietam
Had blood that spilled like tidal waves,
From a Hundred and fifty thousand dead.
The green grassy fields turned crimson
From the Yanks and the poor Johnny Rebs,
And All Their Blood Flowed Bright Red.

WW I & WWII our young men died on foreign shores,
Whoever decided to call them, “The Wars to End All Wars"?
I guess he never heard of Korea or Viet Nam,
For all were volunteers then, that died for Uncle Sam.
Eight hundred thousand, women and fighting men,
died In the cold mountains of Korea, and the rice paddy’s of Con Tien.
Crosses bare their names, where we made their final bed.
But It’s the Mountains, jungles and beaches,
Where All Their Blood Flowed Bright Red.

We now have a war started by Bin Laden, and Hussien
Their God’s have convinced them, it is good to kill and maim.
Our own sons and daughters are now fighting in those far off lands,
Each precious drop of blood spilled, will be on both of their hands.
Now You will see, we as a people love and respect our dead,
because they are wounded or have died for others freedom
And *All Thier Blood Still Flows Bright Red*

This is a brilliant piece of work.

Really brings it home to you.

What a needless waste of lives. It is all so unnecessary.

And always started by some idiot.

    It make me so angry

I absolutely enjoyed all the mention of those past, and the wars of the history before us. I think you've mastered covering basically everyone there is out there that did, or is fighting for this country.

Excellent job!! There's not a thing in this poem that I could see that I would fix. Very nicely done...and thank you for sharing it here.

    Good luck in the contest.

    Emotional through and through

Watch Ya Andy long long time no chat.
Love the emotion that this poem brought to me as I read. I can clearly feel the Personal pain that you built into this work. It clear to all that you Know the pain first hand and although it brings the poem to life it saddens my to think of you and the millions of fellow service Men and women world wide who put there all on the line daily to free us from the wicked of our world.

    Loved it.
I have some new work do take a peck!!
    Love as ever

Oh yes, we should honour the dead. I completely agree with you, their bravery is admirable, and the causes they die for - to save their country and bring justice into the world- are indeed very noble. If they only were true. What are all your young men doing there in Iraq , dying for nothing? Haven't the people of that country been punished enough for those planes most of them didn't even know about. Everybody who dies for something they love deserve all our respect, but I only wish they knew what they really are dying for... Which is death.

      Thank You

If you read to the end, You will see that we Americans are not only fighting for our own countrym but for the freedom of terrorism for all mankind.I don't see dying for a terror free world as dying for nothing. No one likes war, and if you would talk to even a few young men in Iraq they would tell you of the things they have seen, They are killing thier own woman and children and thats what needs to be stopped. I appreciate your feedback....LC

    VERY NICE!

This was a very interesting poem to read since I have studied the Revolutionary War and am now starting to study the Civil war. I liked your descriptions and how you were able to link all these wars together so nicely. I don't completely agree with your views but I still really like this poem.

I think that it's remarkable to note that in the Second World War America didn't want any part of it. Obviously times have changed, and even though I salute those who do fight for justice and peace I think there's a better way than killing to regain it. But overall I did like this poem, in particular the rhyming and use of detail.

      Thank You for your interest

In a perfect world, wars should be fought by the government leaders. Let them duke it out, I agree, but this is not that perfect world. How do you compromise with a person that wants only his religion, Only his way of treating the masses. Not allowing them to read or write and killing all those that opposed him. This is what Saddam did he had mass graves where he gassed the Serbs. My God! Bin Ladden is responsible for killing over 4,000 American people on 9/11 are you saying that we should work out a negotiation with him? Not only that he led detailed attacks in France and Germany. Thats ludicrous.

    AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love for all he soldiers to read this and know that the majority of Americans feel this way and only a small few represent the anti-war protesters in comparison to the ones who actually support the troops. You penned this remarkably an I like the way you go throughout history and retell the stories of wars past and mostly love the warning to Bin Laden that we WIll hunt him dow till he basically has no place else to hide and bring him to the same fate as Saddam. Thanks fro sharing this wonderful tribute of suport to our troops!!!~~Toni~~...P.S. Read my poem called "Because Of You"...I think you'll like it alot!!!

I am sorry, but there is nothing nice about nationalism. Look where it got Europe in the middle of the last century.

This is not just about poetic dedications to something so unfelt by the majority of us. These are real people on both sides of the manmade divide.

Let's di a little deeper in to the human realities felf by all involved in this dreadful affair.

Nice just doesn't do it for me.

ps. if you are interested, a man named Robert Graves wrote a fantastic book about his reality in WW1 and how he deplored the sentiment back at home. In the end, he quit Britain for a quiet life in Spain. It's called 'Goodbye to all That'.
