September Delights

Missing image
September, tousle me
in sunlit warmth of golden laughter!
Glow hawthorn berries red
beneath swaying branches of Rowans
above clustered toadstool caps.
Call nut-hunting squirrels down from trees
and bid fluttering swallows a mute farewell.
Then smoothe the new-ploughed fields
with twilight's soft breath.

When dawn excites the raucous, wheeling crows
bunched in branches still green with leaves,
call gulls and pigeons from the rooftops
and tinge with flame the clouds that hug the hills.
Rouse gusty breezes to rise and spill
upon a sun-streaked sea,
silver bright with brumal light.

Hi Mum. A lovely write and presentation. Very good imagery, flow and tone. Good word choice and alliteration. Lovely depth of feeling. Vivid descriptives. Your words painted a lovely picture. Well penned and much enjoyed.

This is wonderful. The imagery in this poem painted a clear picture in my mind. I like how the entire poem seems to be a command to September. I really like the opening two lines. This is simply beautiful and i don't know what else to say.

thank you so much for this entry into the contest. Your very first lines set the tone for this autumnal dedication----and the second stanza is one that I observe on a daily basis from my window. Pigeons have invaded my roof for the last couple of weeks and the gulls are making their presence known as well. I live fairly close to the Bay. Thanks again and best wishes,
    reenie

You paint such amazing imagery with your words, this is truly beautiful and flows so smoothly from the tongue. Line 13 is my absolute favourite in this, the alliteration is subtle indeed yet very effective. Thank you for sharing Grams, love you always. Laura x
