Lightning's thunder from so far away, rang
From out the black sky of the forest's night.
Bats o'erhead found a nice scene in the heart,
A circular clearing, home to a story.
In there lied a tub, claw-footed and white,
Filled to the brim with stiff gelatin.
Green synthetic sticks kept the tub alight.
The figure of a man inside slept still.
Not too feet away a hand from a hole
Porcelain and smooth, it clawed at the dirt.
And out climbed a girl in a frilly frock,
Starry grey eyes digested the odd scene.
Her face at the tub, a hush swiftly fell.
A green glow on her face, the body stirred.
Like birth, out he strode, entranced by the girl.
They surveyed each other and fell in love.
They skipped to a tune audible to none,
Mild grins on their faces but hands apart.
The boy picked a flower for his new love,
But gave him a fright when the stem bled.
They leaned in for a kiss but felt no touch.
An invisible force kept them sep'rate.
The two confused lovers then danced a dance;
No kisses or hugs, no contact at all.
Left so confused, they stood there in a daze.
Surprise sleeping on the boy's innocent face.
The girl, still so pale, expected as much.
Slightly sublime, beauty never felt love.
All of a sudden, white dancers spun in.
Wrapped up in gauze, all their eyes were blacked out.
Glitter painted faces stared at the two.
Slippers on their feet while the lovers bare.
One dancer shot his finger at the boy.
While amidst the show, another one stood.
And with one finger caressed the girl's neck,
One line across, the signal of death.
Out frolicked the dancers and left them 'lone.
Shock on the boy's face and the girl mild,
Black leather gone stiff all suddenly still.
Expression left his face as the moon sang.
The boy turned into plastic, a model thing.
Out-stepped from behind, an evil him
Sauntered tow'rds the girl and went for a kiss.
Then she exploded, glitter and nothing.
The evil one fell as glitter rained down.
The good by awoke and found the girl gone.
Distraught he wandered back to the first scene
And reached for the gun in his leather coat.
Into the hole that gave birth to his love
The lover-less soul climbed in to forget.
Last love song sung at the shot of a gun.
Then outreached a hand, glitter and nothing.
From out the black sky of the forest's night.

Author notes
Wrote this for my creative writing class. It's the basic plot of my indie film but in poem form. It's a fairy tale thing about the human embodiment of genius and the not-so-human embodiment of beauty and the dance that they dance while he tries to attain her, and is never sucessful. It's pretty much one big metaphor which would take me very long to explain.
Anyway, it's like a child to me.

This is very interesting! More of a 'dark' whimsy, which wasn't what I was expecting, so this really stands out to me. I could clearly see every image; your poem drew me right in. Thanks for entering, and good luck!

Incredible. Full of such imagery, I saw all the events play out on a distorted movie screen in my mind. And it was astounding.. in a slightly weird way. Very nice portrayal of such a metaphor! Best of luck to you in the contest you've entered.
