On nights like this I look and see
The stars shining
Like ships on a wide black sea*
And I think back to when I reached for them
"Aux etoiles, on va y aller" was what he said
I asked him "Quoi?" and "Quoi?" again
But all he did was stare and smile
At my wide confused eyes though the darkness
Though I never fell in love with a Parisian again
His words haunt me, as though it could have happened
As though together, we reached out our hands
And the world - the universe - was ours to claim
Many a time I have lay back and reached up
But nothing can turn back time,
Not even my burning, deep regret,
Of what a Parisian and I could have done
"To the stars, that's where we'll go."
Author notes
I guess this goes with your sappy-love mood.
