Look out upon the rose among the thorns!
Marvel at its apparent beauty!
Each petal, another layer that must be stripped
If the true form shall be exposed.
Oh you: Reptilian beauty,
Eyes as slanted and alluring as the deceits you weave.
That same slithering symbol sent to tempt the first of us.
With seductive whispers you subverted the mind,
And yet you are that which was corrupted!
You are descendant of that same weak moment.
The tempter, and yet still, the tempted.
None else of Eve matches your malice.
You and you alone, it seems, inherit some secret:
A special affinity to destroy the things you treasure,
Or do you merely claim to value them?
Why now do you run into the thorns?
Why do you linger by the rose?
Stand and face your accuser!
What falls from that symbol of affection?
Look how the petals desert you!
The illusion itself betrays you.
What other signs of beauty can you hide behind?
You have been exposed!
The rose itself withers in repentance,
And yet, you persist?
What do I behold before me now?
Surely not that same, once beautiful, creature!
Or is it now that I do truly see you?
Corrupter! Festering, and fraudulent fiend!
Once, with perceived beauty, you lied,
And I was lead through a field of your roses.
The barbs numbly pricking my skin,
But now, through some higher justice, your illusion is unborn.
All now that I gaze upon, is a beast among the thorns.
Author notes
Was I angry? Just a little bit. Is it written in a more classical way? Most definitely. Enjoy!
