heroes

my heroes are now
real people,
who are honest about
their vices and past lies...
people who feel, or
have felt, shame
and regrets

was it easier when our heroes
were perfect?
did it make you strive
for perfection?
or were they the balance
for our early wrong-doings?
before we learned to feel remorse...

so why was I so quick
to lose my innocence?
my state of ignorance,
a state of bliss...
so why'd I buy into this?
because all my old heroes
have past away
from arrogance

you would kind of have to mix and match people to get someone perfect. but i agree people need to see the hero in real people and not think some things are so bad. but striving for perfection is still a good thing, that way you can be the best that you can be.

This is a great poem and with with so much depth and truth. Too many of us have heroes that seem to have such perfect lives. But nothing, or no one is ever perfect. Everyone has their downfalls. And you have written a great poem about how we want to believe in something perfect. Do your best in this life and learn from your mistakes and become your own hero. Well done, I really enjoyed this.

Very honest and truthful. This is raw and really captures the emotions you are trying to potray without being to preachy. I love it. Shows personality and emotion.

'so why was I so quick
    to lose my innocence?
    my state of ignorance,
    a state of bliss...'

Love the phrasing and simple rhyme, beautifully done, thanks for sharing.

This is sharp. There are so many 'so why['s] was I so quick' - we all have our 'heroes' so good some bad - and often they do not realise their impact. The finger, of course, should also point the other way - back to me - I should have been a little more questioning, a little more careful - but 'heroes' no matter what - have a tremendous impact. Thought-proviking piece this. FransB
