One Day in September

What does it take
to break a country's heart?
How many must die
to set its soul trembling?

Gordon McCannel Aamoth
Alok Agarwal
Lt.Brian G. Ahearn

Did anyone you know
die there?
Did anyone you loved?
Were you there?

Colleen Ann Barkow
Kenneth William Basnicki
Lt. Steven J. Bates

I was not there, nor anyone
I knew.  But I cry for
each and every one
who died there.

Jeffrey Collman
Neilie Anne Heffeman Casey
Thelma Cuccinello

Though time has turned,
my tears still flow
and my heart still flutters
as I hear the names read aloud.

James Debeuneure
Rodney Dickens
Charles Droz

I know none,
yet I know them all.
I loved none,
yet I mourn them all

    Interesting...

An interesting way indeed for you to take on board this topic; i liked the way you inserted a few of the victims' names as i havent seen anything like this before - it was something unique to read =)

Best wishes, and good luck in the contest.

This was an amazing piece... a beautiful tribute to the victims of September 11th. It really moves me that there are still some people who mourn this day rather than conspire and insult it. Thanks for the read.

Very poignant. I lived thirty three years in NYC. I have been working in and around restaurants and the people who work in them for the last thirty years. I thought of the people who worked at the Windows of the World restaurant
in the observation tower. This is so very sad.

Nice of you to take time to remember them all!

    well written

So sad. I can still barely believe that this happened. Unimaginable. I went once to the top of one of the towers when I lived in NY; to the observation deck.
