The Great Pyramid of Giza.

Missing image

They came from all over

the land of Egypt to Cairo.

4,500 years past and

sailing up the Nile,

not forced or enslaved-

but in devotion.

A people of morals,

strength and loyalty

building villages

to accommodate

them as they

built a pyramid to

worshiped their Pharaoh,

creating a structure

in blistering heat

that continues to baffle

the genius today.

Each block of granite,

hand carved

by masons

was hoisted by labourers

to the skies.

A form of polygonal base

with four sides and finished

with a face of

refined white limestone,

polished to the highest of sheen

and ensuring it's gods could view

it from the after life.

A Monumental love,

still standing

in the sands of ancient,

entombed for eternity.

One of this earths wonders,

as glorious in this age

as it was then.

Author notes

I had the pleasure of visiting Egypt this summer.
These pyramids are truely a spiritual experience.
i sailed the nile from Luxor to Cairo and can reconmend it the journey of a life time.
Its history is so interesting and seeing it for oneself is exhalerating to say the least.
I never knew that the structure was covered in a render of glisting granite, it was polished so the universe could see it. Apparently it's sheen was seen for over 100 miles away.

Ah what fun that trip must have been! Thanks for including the author's notes as I never knew that fact about the glistening granite. Is this one of your photos? It should have some sort of photo credit with it, be it yours or another you found, thanks and thanks also for entering!

IT wsa polished just as the Myans polished their stones with whiten ash. Both cultures still hold wonderous treasures that defeat the test of time. Still in their glory, a slendour to behold! Wonderful poem my friend. ~Sie
