Spirits move across the dusky sky
Chanting her name
For she lives
She breathes
She is in the company of wolves
Her prowess defines her image
Commanding and daring
Stalking her prey, in and out of love
In and out of death
Igniting eyes that fill the burnt umber skies
She lives
She dies
In the company of wolves
Legends of the past haunt her
Taunt her
Cajole her, why should she make the same mistakes as them
No better, no worse, than man alone
She kills to survive, carrion flesh devoured
UN-holy human thought
Unknown to human hearts
She is the mistress, with mettle she seeks you out
She inhales the stars
Breathes for the sun
She dances beyond the horizon
From dusk till dawn
She is the mistress
See her eyes
See her, for what she is
Hidden amongst the graves
She walks in the night
In the company of wolves
Chanting her name
For she lives
She breathes
She is in the company of wolves
Her prowess defines her image
Commanding and daring
Stalking her prey, in and out of love
In and out of death
Igniting eyes that fill the burnt umber skies
She lives
She dies
In the company of wolves
Legends of the past haunt her
Taunt her
Cajole her, why should she make the same mistakes as them
No better, no worse, than man alone
She kills to survive, carrion flesh devoured
UN-holy human thought
Unknown to human hearts
She is the mistress, with mettle she seeks you out
She inhales the stars
Breathes for the sun
She dances beyond the horizon
From dusk till dawn
She is the mistress
See her eyes
See her, for what she is
Hidden amongst the graves
She walks in the night
In the company of wolves

Powerful write Gill...as Wendy said , it is very captivating
and begs a second ( or in my case a third read ) to get
to grips with all thats underlying your words...
Reads as very emotive and personal...
" Legends of the past haunt her
Taunt her "...
Legends...an in someone who played a big part in your life ?
Not being nosey...merely rhetorical Gill...
I may well have misinterpreted but great poetry is the kind
that makes you think...as this does...
Fantastic

Well done!!
NurseChilly,
I really enjoyed reading this. The descriptive words you used... wow. It was very powerful.
This was a fantastic stanza...
Legends of the past haunt her
Taunt her
Cajole her, why should she make the same mistakes as them
No better, no worse, than man alone
She kills to survive, carrion flesh devoured
UN-holy human thought
Unknown to human hearts
She is the mistress, with mettle she seeks you out
She inhales the stars
Breathes for the sun
Great!! Keep it up.
Sincerely,
Nelak

Cool. I just love this piece. It kinda reminds me of a book I am reading. The book is called "Julie Of The Wolves". This makes me think of all the things in the book and my life at the same time. It makes me wonder. It makes me feel sad. It makes me feel. Making someone feel what is in your piece is a great power of which I do not posse, but I am glad you do. Keep up writing this way it will surely bring you great joy and profits.

there is a line from a mars volta song that goes "where wolves hide in the company of men." i think the song is inertiatic esp. it's kind of like your idea, except backwards, for the wolves are in the company of humans, and not humans being in the company of wolves.
The rhythm was really great in certain spots, and the occasional rhyme of words was a plus. not really on a subject i enjoy reading, but hey, you can't please everyone. and so far, by the comments that are being left above this one, you've done a good share of pleasing already. fantastic job. i'd give you two claps of the hands.

"She inhales the stars
Breathes for the sun"
This poem warrents an overwhelming amount of merit, it makes me absolutely speechless! Such worded color and stark comparisons I have seen so little of, you are very good at poetry! I havenot looked at your author page, but I bet it is as amazing as this poem is! This is the first I have read of your work and I certainly want to read more. FOr that reason I am adding you to my favorites...this is excellent!!! I just LOVE it!

Absolutely Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So many breath-taking images were dancing before my eyes, because your words always seem to awaken my spirit

My favorite:
She inhales the stars
Breathes for the sun
She dances beyond the horizon
From dusk till dawn
She is the mistress
See her eyes
See her, for what she is
Hidden amongst the graves
She walks in the night
In the company of wolves
She inhales the stars, and breathes for the sun, is my absolute favorite!!!!!!!!, this is soooooooooooooo inspiring, and you know I have some american indian in me, my grandmother was full-blooded american indian; but I don't know what kind; probably the meanest one
I'm bookmarking this, it's one of my all time favorites of yours

Excellent Work
This has got to be up there with some of the best poetry you've written, this was so uniquely penned, great imagery and wording!
I loved reading it, it really captured my attention, and you know us men, it's hard to capture our attention with just mere words, lol!
Keep up the awesome poetry, totally, brilliantly penned indeed!
Thanks for sharing your mad talent here, that means cool! LOL!
Much appreciated..........

They really are great company. Sometimes they snap at your heels, those ghost wolves of the Autumn dusk. But most of the time they sit patiently with me, in me, waiting for the day that I can really run with them again. Strange how delusional it sounds(I know that it does), but I consider that one of the sanest things about me, really. There is a strange freedom to be found in the company of wolves. Then you see things sometimes that make you really, truly believe that you haven't been full of POOP since you were four. A wonderful piece Gill. I hope that whoever you wrote this for is happy with it. humps and grins lol

Gill - These are such beautiful words - so ethereal. Wolves are so misunderstood and still so much of a mystery to humans. This is very well written - I love our words. By the way, I bought a poster of this picture back when I was in college (at university) - Ive always found the image enchanting. Thanks - Helen

This is extremely well written. At first I thought I was at your profile page and then I realized that this was infact a poem written. Beautiful choice of words expressed here.

Oh how I liked the mystical metaphors of this piece { of things and beings we can relate too , yet not fully understand their mysteries} I read this as I am listening to a CD "Native Spirit" What a great piece to compliment my present state of mind
And I have such an affinity to wolves . I have a piece called " A tribute to the Wolf " Give it a look when you get a chance please.

I liked the line "she inhales the stars" and I liked the content of the piece - is it an attack on the hypocrisy of so-called 'civilised' society? It seemed to have brief hints of that at times, which I liked.
