Make it Poetry...Make it True...

Open a page on here, any page you like
And tell me what you find?

The thoughts and emotions of the writer
Placed carefully in a way others can see what they felt

Look deeper into the comment replies
And see where the writer got the inspiration

Some of these writes are written for a contest
Given a prompt to kick start it off

Now this could be a picture
A word bank, a phrase even

But what you will see?
Will always be the author’s thoughts, no one told them what to write.

Now some of these writes are clearly heartfelt
And could not be written otherwise

Some are sad and lonely writes
Again they show this in the words used

How many times have you really felt the emotion in a piece?
How many times have you felt the desire and passion?

Those words, those writes, have touched you
You cannot deny that, it happens

But what you have to remember is this
Those words are not yours

Those words are the thoughts and emotions of another
Written in a manner to captivate the reader

To display how they feel about someone or something
To make you feel a certain way

To laugh, to cry, to smile, to want what they have
An emotional roller coaster every time you open a page

I am one of those poets
Well, I think I am a poet

I write lines and stanzas and verses
To get my thoughts to you

Some times I make you smile
And that is good

Sometimes I make you laugh
And that is even better

Sometimes I make you think
And that is education

Sometimes I make you go ‘Awe, that was nice’
And that is special

Sometimes a saddened tear even
But that is rare.

I write from my heart
I write from my dreams and wishes

I write from my thoughts and emotions

I write what I feel
I say what I feel
But I have NEVER written a lie.

A poet is someone who cares about what readers think about their work
A poet is someone who cares about how others will feel after reading their work
A poet is someone who will NEVER mislead another by words they have written
If they do, I don’t class them as a poet in my eyes.

Most of my comments are descriptions of how the writer made me feel, made me think, made me sit back in admiration.

A true poet is someone who has to be honest
Not only to themselves, but also to the ones he or she writes for.
The readers will know when they have found this
When they feel what was written without question

Those who find fault in the words, not grammatical or spelling
Find false feelings and thoughts beyond them
Have not read it properly, and do not understand the poet’s thoughts at the time of writing
That’s when you need to ask yourself, why am I here? What is it I am looking for?

Do Not ‘down cry’ the poet who’s words leave you wanting.
Do Not ‘disregard them as a pathetic writer’
Do Not ‘class them as a writer of ill truths’

It is your time you are using to read these words
It is your thoughts that are now thinking
It is your words you write your next piece with.

Use your time, your words and your thoughts wisely.
But remember this one important fact
Whatever your write
Make it the truth.
Make it what you feel
Make it reach out to others without question.

Make it poetry…

Please tell me what you think

if some would simply open their eyes and read.... try to see things from the heart as you do mike... maybe this world would gentler place where love and truth is appreciated!

Wow...your way with words is amazing. I wrote a poem almost like this called "poetry" but its so much shorter with less to it. I love your writing!

    wow :)

-this is really good. everything you said here makes complete sense. maybe some will read this & think differently before commenting on someone else's work. i write, & sometimes it's not easy to get it all out the way i want to. then i put all the work into it & i receive a comment that says, "this is really good." & that's it. & i'm like, ok, well what exactly do you like about it. i was hoping for a little more than than that. lol
-throughout this, you talked about how you shouldn't lie when writing. you should go with what you feel. & couldn't help but think of the growing "dirty pretty" writes i keep seeing on this site. & most of the time, i honestly think they just threw a bunch adjectives & punctuation & meaningless words to create a poem.
-they just keep pumping out these poems one after the other about the same things. & when you ask them if it's a personal piece, most of the time they say no. it's ridiculous. i'd at least like a writer to have some kind of idea of what they're talking about, you know? by the way, this isn't a rant against "dp" writes or anything. some of them are really good.
-i really enjoyed reading this. it does make me feel i will try harder to appreciate everyone's work. this is an amazing website. no matter what i may think about grammatical errors & whatnot. you really do you have a great grasp on what a real poet is. i also really liked the title. it made want to read the poem. i enjoyed the whole thing but i really loved these lines. i am sorry this is so long!

Personally, I couldn't be bothered to take to heart what others say about my writing ... ~shrug~ - as you have said here, I write from the heart and yes, it DOES hurt when they have the audacity to judge my words harshly, but hey, what you gonna do?! I have always believed that for us to appreciate intelligence in this world, there has to be something to offset it, like moronic behaviour
lol - I write because I enjoy writing and if there is something on one of my favourites that I do not understand I ask! I comment on every single one of my favourites and thought that they would return the favour, I am, unfortunately sadly disappointed as it seems I am the only one who comments
My mother taught me: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all
    makes sense doesn't it???

my apologies for returning late to reply. I have had a few things outwith here to concentrate on, which has taken me from returning all comments as quick as I would have liked.

I appreciate your time, and for being true in your words.

      Thank you Chantell.

well done hun, you have pointed out so many reasons why as poets we write and how the comments are reflected upon by the reader. I myself write from the heart and I always put my greatest of emotions in them and sometimes my writes are from personal experiences. We have spoken for hours and hours as to about writings and feelings one feels when they read ppl's works. You did a great job on this write and like many i read from different poets such as yourself YES YOU ARE A POET, NEVER DOUBT IT!!, i find myself in tears by their remarkable words from the heart and soul. just as i did from this one as i know the wonderful heart within your soul xoxoxo well done xxxx

Sometimes people comment just to comment on the poem. Looking to improve their ponts, and for nothing more.

Saddens me to find that many do that here! Truley any poem is WORTH reading, we may not agree but given half the chance to think about it...we can always offer some type of comment that is meaningful!

Wonderfull written as usual Mike. Thank you for making me stop to think again ~Sie

“I am one of those poets
    Well, I think I am a poet”

You are most defiantly a poet and your work is wonderful. This piece composed in couplets is an example. To have this posted on a site comprised of all poets is wonderfully apropos.

    Love,
