A leaf falls silent tolling
passing of summer days
promise not more than haze
and mist and rain to come.
A leaf falls slowly telling
the watcher ease has gone
from rusty un-oiled bone
that summer kindly gave.
A leaf falls dully spelling
a cold and wintry way
with dark not light the day
'til buds grace greening stems.

It is the time of year that a life will fall and so it is an apt metaphor.

Having lived in Australia for the last 20 years this brought a tear to my eye and reminded me of the old country. Has a lovely flow and imagery, well done.
