I want to be a man

Sunlight floods through the skylight,
Warming itself against the radiant beauty before me.
For a moment I gaze, mind adrift.

Fingers entwined she and I stumbled across the gravel lot,
My boot getting stuck as we walk toward the fairground.

For the first time in my life I knocked down all three jugs,
And for the first time in my life I had to carry around a toy                                larger than I was.

After a few drinks and a stick of cotton candy we called it a night, that cockpit I slid in to seeming so much tighter as she let that toy have the window seat.

It's the woman in the photograph that made me what I've always wanted to be, I was a man, and because of this I set aside the portrait and go back to sleep.

Author notes

'what if we were all so achingly in love?'

At any rate, the poem is what love should feel like, followed by how easily it's lost with a mistake. This man's mistake was driving after his drinks, my mistake was being emotionally blind. Unfortunately this is the mood I'm stuck in tonight, I'm sorry if the poem isn't at all good, which is what I expect.
