Big Island: Capsulated

Snow capped
mountain,
with silver
bubbles.

Arid Desert,
with prickly
pear.

Exhibit of
animals, in
tropical
rainforest.

Hard to breathe
volcanic air.

Tropical beaches,
Black, white and
green sand.

Palms all on
display.

East and West side,
cruise ships land.

Visitors stop
and play.

Aloha is more
felt than heard,
it's practiced
everywhere.

It's not so much
the word,
but the magic
in the air.

Fragrance wafts,
both day and night.
Flowers bloom
year round.

If you like water
and flight,
activities abound.

Kona coffee,
known world wide,
grown on mountain
slopes.

Picking opihi
in the tide,
or dangling
from ropes.

Foods from
around the earth.
On our island are
found.

And you get your
money's worth,
on fruits that
abound.

Mango, lychee,
dragon fruit.
Exotics like
to grow.

If paradise is
your pursuit,
Big Island's
the place to go!

Just remember
if you come,
to visit this
sacred land.

All things
reside here,
in Madame Pele's
hands.
Alooooooooooha!

Author notes

Way too much to say about The Big Island. I hope I peaked some interest. Silver bubbles refers to the observatories on Mauna Kea.
Opihi are a type of limpet that grow here...we loose people every year to opihi picking...they dangle from the cliffs from ropes, or "pick" in the surf...
it's very dangerous and opihi command a high price...
especially at graduation time...

A lot of beautiful scenes you have painted. I really like how you have pulled out the atmosphere of Hawaii, and not just the scenery. You have included many of the aspects that Hawaiians laud of their own islands. Nice job! Hope to see you in the next Take Me There contest.

I like the rhythm and rhyme of this piece. You touched on so many differing images. That painted a braoder picture in my mind of what Hawaii is all about. Very enjoyable.

    wow

How beautiful! Makes me want to book a flight and come see all the wonderful images you tell in this. Very well worded, great images, reads nicely.
I love how you have started this...
    'Snow capped
    mountain
    with silver
    bubbles'
What a great description for the man-made observatories!
And I like how you have ended this....with the reverance paid to the land itself and the old legends and stories.
    Good luck in your contest.
