persistant winter

The leaves have yet to to turn
& no snow has yet to fall but alas,
if winter hasn't taken over my heart.
Depression is turning me cold.

Happiness adrift in summer seas,
long and far from here.
A blizzard of bitterness & utter ache
for things that were lost long ago.
Latent memories & self doubt aide the storm.
I cannot seem to pass through..
I am buried too deep.

Slowly the snow will cover whatever's left
of this mess i've made of myself.
Falling as each letdown comes along
but the sad thing is..I will let it.
I no longer care.

Author notes

depression, being buried in your feelings..

I like the emotion in this, and the fact that it is so relatable to so many!
Some depression is due to our own mistakes, some due to chemical inbalances. Here in the north, seasonal depression is very common - lack of sunshine. But whatever, or where-ever, your thoughts came from - they are heartfelt and something most people can relate to.
    thank you for your entry
    best wishes in the contest

I really loved how you used nature well to describe depressed feelings. Very well done. IT's refreshing to read a poem about this subject without sounding "Emo" or "teenage angst" (cause there are a lot of them out there! lol)

    Well penned. Thanks for entering!

it's really sad that a lot of people go throught seasonal depression, it seems like i hear more f it in the winter months. i love winter b/c it's cold, so i hate to see others depressed, at anytime for that matter. great write.

Just remembered how it feels to live on the dark side of the Moon reading this...ahh the shivery solitude of space.
I hate the winter, seasonal and metaphorical state, and you capture the feeling perectly and freeze for all time.
I don't usually care, but reading this, I hope the sun will shine on your arctic wasteland to let the flowers bloom.

I think this has potential - and please, the author notes, never say you aren't good enough. Be proud of what you write.

I do believe that this could use a bit of revamping, some more imagery would help - it will allow the reader to think more deeply. Again, a good foundation.

This was ok...I like it. I feel a feeling of sadness. I don't though like that last line because it didn't flow from that line with I will let it... then you say I no longer care. You understand...but everything is else was very poetic

your talent is definetly worth the contest first of all. second, i can relate with you in the sense that i seem to get a twinge of actual depression during the winter and fall months. I think they call it seasonal depression or someting..i'm not sure. anyway, your poem: When you accept the fact that you can do nothing but just give in and move on, you will live alot lighter. The happiness wont slap you in the face, but over time you will feel the change. Best of luck in the contest,
