a well and source of love for each.
I have no way to pay this debt,
except to learn what you may teach.
In darkened days I entered here.
You were my friend before we met,
with time to hear and soothe my fear
with gentleness I'll not forget.
You're not impressed by storm nor threat,
for you have won your victory.
You were my friend before we met,
knowing the soul concealed in me.
Once in a while we greet our friends
and praise them - little praise they get
until the day we make amends.
You were my friend before we met.

what a sweet and heartfelt tribute to maatkara ...
I have crossed her path briefly a few times, and each time I have been delighted and enlightened by her love and wisdom ...
thank you for cherishing this precious lady ...
and congratulations on the gold ...

Dear Marion, I am blessed with several friends who help me see the way forward. Their minds are subtly different, but their hearts are generous and loving. Thank you for being here.

Happy Birthday, maatkara!
This makes me think of a beacon whose rays shine over an uncertain sea bringing the wayfarer home again. Friend are such glowing lights in our lives, and so often help us on our path when vision is a little cloudy or heart breaks. We do know them quickly, like finding a part of ourselves we always knew was there. I think the repetition of the villainelle was a perfet form for this metaphor, and I'm always caught in the rythms reading one, and this beautiful...like music. ~Karen

wow! This is such a sweet poem. Friends do mean a lot in this world. They are siblings we never had but somehow, feel a connection towards them. We want to care for them.
A friend can do so much like you have expressed in this poem here. bravo to friends! I am glad you have such a wonderful friend. I have one too! I tell her I love her everyday (almost!) lol! though she gets freaked out, she'll remember me and know how much she means.... ok I'll stop my ranting here.
take care!

Thank you!
This is the most beautiful poem, my dear friend!
Not only deeply touching, to me personally, but speaks from and for all hearts who have experienced that as well.
I could sincerely recite this back to you

You have stated what we felt, for you are not alone in feelings of affinity here! I was new here and rather severely out of my element when Gennelle's kind support propped my --I won't say confidence, I've always that and to spare--rather my sense of belonging here. Sense of community, and oh, the poems she inspired! Poems I would never have dared share. I owe such a lot to our Maatkara!
Your gentle and succinct poem tells it all.

A very interesting poem – particularly the repeated line and title – “You were my friend before we met.” It seems to appeal to the heart and yet my head rejects it. We do met people with whom we strike up immediate friendships… but I think it is more ‘being on the same wavelength’ than karma, past life… or other superstitions. I suppose it is like anything religious – you may believe what you want… it takes a very good piece of writing to evoke that much thought though¡!

Thank you, I'm glad to grab your attention.
Instant friendship - when does it begin? I think that she was prepared to see something good, which says more about her than about me. Maatkara has helped many people.
