Who knows, I don't
know why
the idea of the paper bird with
Its wings shadow-speckled with
light you did not see
presented to me an
idea of
almost inexplicable
sadness.
Still, everything else
seems sad, even
though I don't know why and
the bird is made out of
a drawing of a bird, and
you don't
notice
the way the bird crumpled
at the wing
when someone laughed.
Even the way your eyes
lean towards the page
is sad despite
the summer evenings
and the wind.
I did not mean to say so, you know,
when you asked what I love most
at this moment and
I said the sun on my hair.
I was dreaming of waterways far-off and
river-cries of birds
unseen.
Like old songs, old wounds made new by our loving
we lean toward
old things.
The silver-flash of fish, seeing
the birth of the river,
saying
good morning to the morning and
loving the burnt edges
the sun made
in our souls.
I was perhaps dreaming of
leaving
and hated myself for wanting
the endless
crossing of frontiers.
Can't you understand, I have no country,
no language but all languages.
No people but all people.
I cannot forget
the struggles of my people, my language, my
words and my
fight for their flying, while you
who have all three
can
so easily let the wind go by.
Is it because I'm ashamed for you,
because,
of all others
you chose me, despite the world,
to smile at?

the phrase, "saying good morning to the morning" was inspired by a line in Shady El Noshokaty's artwork, "The Tree of My Grandmother's House", quite possibly the most beautiful Multimedia artwork ever.

This was really pretty, I enjoyed reading it beginning to end!
You have given a lot of imagery and your poem has flowed quite nicely. Well written!
Thanks for entering and good luck!

"Who knows,"
knows?*
The first stanza is really pretty! :]
Nice way to start off.
Awe.
This was a beautiful piece.
A few places are sort of awkward because it seemed as if words were left out but that's okay.
Generally it flowed nicely.
It was a lovely piece and different. The metaphors nad imagery were done well.
Thanks for entering and good luck! <
