I am but merely nature's own

I am but merely nature’s own
Of flesh and blood
Of hair and bone

I am not alone nor
In competition
I am not involved
In life’s attrition

No ambition
Resides in me
I do not wish to own the sea

I merely wish to live and be
That flow of nature
That is me

To rest a while
As tiredness comes
To whistle softly
Or to hum

To work when that
Is what’s required
And then to eat
And to retire

For why would I
A man begin
To think that life’s
A prize to win

When each it’s clear
Has air to breathe
And sense to warm
And to relieve

For why would I
Make nature wrong
And then set out
To put it right

That would be
A silly endeavour
Like making daytime
Be the night

    Simplicity sound delicious

Its habit for individuals to complicate life, it seems the more I remain humble the more I am graced with the gift of serenity. I enjoyed your poem about how you do the things that you need to and try not change the world. Sometime putting one-foot in front of the other gets to our destination a lot quicker than trying to teleport ourselves to another universe.

Why men strive for more, indeed
its just a simple case of greed
from back before our time began
Lust for power was born to man
and now he cannot stop the beast
    from its hateful, greedy feast
and someday we shall have to pay
    for all our silliness today.

Lovely poem, Westly- I do like to be inspired.
We so often forget that the journey is the point- always striving to get to the destination- hurry! You don't want to miss out on what lies ahead!
My dad always used to say "Yer not gettin off this earth alive..."

Cheers for the poetry- it is just what a girl needed this morning.

the last stanza is quite good:"That would be
    A silly endeavour
    Like making daytime
Be the night" ALL-IN-ALL a very good 'retort' FOR the NATURE of things thanks for sharing regards zaj

    Excellent Poetry!

And in the style what I coined as "reation" poetry: reason and emotion.

Now Poet. Proceed on your serene way.

    Love

I really like the message you radiate with this poem here This is definately some good food for thoughts, and if only half of the people on this earth would think like that... but utopia is utopia for something unfortunately...

Very well written, this complaint against society

What a pleasure to find something so light and happy on the site - there seems to be a plethora of dark nonsense these days which is just so depressing. Thanks so much for a jolly and uplifting read.

i got to this poem by accidental click, but i am so glad i did now
it so refreshin to see another person with a similar view to my own. dont sweat teh small stuff it just isnt worth it, and if it aint broke dont fix it change does hapen to us when we least expect it, i am livin proof of just that.
you just need to persevere with a new way of thinking and/or doing things to make those changes happen, and sometimes the changes are made for you and you have no choice but to live wit them.
teh way you have rhymed your words makes this poem very pleasant to read

Your acceptance of life as it is given is very refreshing to me. I particularly like the verse before last, which illustrates definite, yet saddening, trend in humanity.

Thank you. It is something which I have been trying to do for a few years now. I am not quite there yet, but I think this poem marked a turn in the way I look at life. It takes commitment and I am easily strayed, but change happens regardless...
