Step up!
Face your death!
The noose is just above her head.
As she looks down,
she notices
dried blood at her
feet.
A hint of a
tear
shines down her face.
With a sniffle,
she fights back
the urge to cry.
For the sake of all who died,
she must pretend to be strong.
On the other side of the wall,
which hatred and ignorance erected,
there is a man
bound for the same fate.
At the same time,
with no knowledge of the other,
the two are fitted with their rope string
necklaces.
The pair cry out:
Long live freedom!
Keep our way of life strong!
The hangmen pull the levers.
The floor panels fall in.
The bodies
drop.
Hurrah for us and our great victory!
Both sides celebrate,
believing that they have succeeded in their goal.
That they have triumphed.
That the war is going their way.
They do not know
that the casualties are
equal.
The stakes are just as
high.
And without going into
detail,
many more will still
die.
They shall celebrate for now.
When the dawn arrives,
they shall see their ignorance
revealed.
The cries shall echo
over the battlefield,
over the kingdoms,
over everything.
Yet, the war will rage on.

A really good poem. It was great how you made the poem make sense and have a rhythm without the need of rhyming.
