childhood friend

sweltering afternoons
& dripping with sweat

we still had time to
share a quick hello.

dancing under the
running hose;

as we baked under the
heated oven foils;

years passed so fast
& I guess we grew up.

no more mud-rolling
or ice cream escapades.

I guess I shook off
the calling and letters-

heck.
it felt like there was time.
