Fourth of July at Uncle Joe's!
Siblings and cousins running through hose.
Bar-b-que coals, ready, white hot.
Playing with the plastic bubble's we got.
We took turns, and blew a balloon.
That almost filled Aunt Floe's front room.
Outdoors it went, held high with pride.
Everyone's grin was three feet wide!
Until we let go, and the balloon flew,
over the top of that filled bar-b-que.
Uncle Joe yelled "Stop!", but it was too late.
The balloon floated towards the white hot grate.
It was the biggest loudest *pop* as it blew.
And pieces of hot dogs and hamburgers flew.
We had to use the rest of our time,
Cleaning up all the pieces we could find.
Though the day was filled with worry and woes,
we still had potatoe salad and Dominoes!

I liked the "homey" feel of your language. This was a cute piece of family memory.I like the visual of the hot dog explosion, and I could also really picture "Aunt Floe's front room--just because you called it a front room as she might have-a nice touch of authenticity.
Good luck in the contest. -
bubble balloons, lol that was what we were missing at out holiday cook outs. those balloons popping over the food and hot coals would have quiet the guys argument over the best way to light the fire. this was a real treat to read and with the picture you painted here, it really brought on the laughter. this was very good and i wish you all the luck in the contest.

Enjoyable portrayal of one of those 'most memorable' family events! Nice rhythm and rhyme. Loved your "Aunt Floe's front room", "pieces of hot dog and hamburgers flew", and the conclusion with "potato salad and Dominoes". Fun write!
