Eidolon

Eidolon

A lonely specter dressed in white
Lighter than air, floating in space
Haunting palace walls at night

Ghostly essence, an eerie sight
Hidden away within this place
A lonely specter dressed in white

On every eve she does take flight
A fleeting breeze without a face
Haunting palace walls at night

She brushes your arm, O so slight
Then disappears without a trace
A lonely specter dressed in white

If you are lucky and contrite
You’ll see this lovely specters’ grace
Haunting palace walls at night

A fleeting vision, beautiful sight
An apparition dressed in lace
A lonely specter dressed in white
Haunting palace walls at night

Author notes

Villanelle:
A Villanelle is a nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme:
aba aba aba aba aba abaa.
The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines).

I still remember that the first thing you ever told me was that the Villanelle is the hardest form to construct. I haven't tried it - but I've seen you use it many times. You are certainly great at it! The poem is flawless no matter how much you turn it.

You are simply brilliant! (by the way, thank you for using the background )

    Love ya,

This is a beautiful poem! I've not yet tried this form, but I see it every now and again and find it quite intriguing. This is a ethereal and very skilled take on the prompt. Best of luck to you!

Very beautiful. It is more difficult to write a villanelle with only 8 syllables per line. You have done it perfectly. I can hear the breeze blow as she passes. Fantastic. Should do very well in the contest.

Beautiful write. Wonderful form and flow. This piece made me think of a ghost haunting a place and also made me think of how ghosts/spirits must be lonely while walking around houses at night. Good luck in the contest.

    perfect

This is a really good example for me, now I know what I did wrong with the my other poem, I'm going to try this one, I also like the way you enchanted this picture into an ancient feeling past.UNT

      Thanks!

I'm glad you liked it and it helped your own writing; that makes me feel good.
