Pray to ask forgiveness for the wrong deeds you've done;
name your sins and foolish ways, name them one by one.
It is written in the Bible that through Jesus there is Grace,
but God expects a contrite heart and then a change of pace.
Once He knows that you regret the sorrow that you brought,
He will offer you His peace and forgiveness that you sought.
If this is how it works with God, then this must be the way
forgiving works within the flock when folks begin to stray.
If you should cause for others the most unbearable of pain,
don't think that they will like you or trust you ever again.
You may "say" you're sorry, but your actions have more voice.
You only look ridiculous when you misrepresent your choice.
If you should seek forgiveness for all the hurt you cause;
you must speak with the people for whom you've given pause.
Make your plea with a contrite heart and vow to change your way.
Live your life accordingly, resist temptation to betray.
Once you face the pain you cause and the sinful way you're livin',
the wounds may still take time to heal, but you will be forgiven.

I loved this!
So true, I try so hard NOT to cause pain for others, I prefer taking a different path. I am a grand fan of "Do onto others" It is simply the way it should be, but not everyone has the faith to believe. Excellent job, and what lovely rhyme.

Dawn Baby
Dawn, thank you for reading and your kind comments. I try to live by the Golden Rule, too and I don't believe that I have ever caused anyone horrible pain...at least it was never my intent. The words in this poem were idle thoughts one day in the shower...

Very well penned. I think life would be so much better if we could just extend those words "I'm sorry" to each other, and to truly show we mean it. And, with God's grace, to extend forgiveness to each other as well.

Very well penned, good luck!

With this poem you remind me about my childhood. Nice and peaceful and of course, wise.

This reminded me about my first poems I ever wrote- almost in prayer. I thought there were a lot of good ideas in the poem, though I do think it would improve the poem to add more imagery- things to describe these thoughts. Thank you for entering the contest
