Lovers meet again

My traps are set. It was difficult but I managed to be careful enough not to cause myself any real damage. The silver was toughest, my earring melted through my ear the night she bit me. Glad I wasn't wearing a necklass. She must have known about the earring and avoided it. Something in the metal that reacts with our DNA. Holy water dosn't work, churches don't block my entrance, wood is just a sliver to us. Garlic is very painful - like mace to most people - but it doesn't kill us. Sunlight causes severe burns, and can kill us in a minute or so of exposure. I watched someone get cooked in a cage and it wasn't a pretty picture, brings to mind the salem witch trials. She told me a story of the one that turned her that night in the alley. His mother was burned as a witch, never given a fair trial. Someone accused her of witchcraft and that was all they needed, they tied her to a post and set her on fire. She screamed for 5 minutes before she died. Makes me wonder how a human can live that long while on fire, or even stay conscious through the pain. Maybe she really was a witch and they actually caught one. Well good for them, the last thing we need in this world is another bunch of freaks running around casting spells and turning people into newts, or frogs, or vampires. Which is my theory on how we came to be, not some hokey tale of a serial killer lopping off peoples heads and putting them on stakes to ward off his enemies. No one knows for sure how or when we came to be, but that's my ideas on it anyway. I know we've been around for at least as long as the 1400s, but beyond that the stories get blurry. At 167 she's considered young, so I, being 54, am considered just a baby as far as we go. But I have worked very hard and studied our ways carefully, so I have grown strong and very quickly.

She's coming soon, Her presence grows by the hour now. As I sit in what's left of my old apartment - it's been abandoned for 6 years now - I reminisce of the night she took me. She was the most beautiful creatue I'd ever seen. Her body was perfect, her hair flowed down her shoulders like magma coming out of a volcano, slowly amd radiant, never quite stopping but never seming to move. Her eyes were like 2 emeralds staring back at me, cold and dark, but full of life and brilliance at the same time.

My bait is tied up in the bedroom, on top of the bed we laid on that night. She didn't know she was being hunted. She feels for the prostitutes the most, calls them victims of society. I say the only victims are the ones that never had a choice, they could have gotten help for what they had. I lost my choices 22 years ago when she turned me without asking if I wanted this. I guess that's why I kill my own kind so often. I'm giving them another choice. Now it's her choice to come looking for me. The other gentleman had a choice too when he came after me, his choice ended him in a cage though. His entire body was reduced to ashes inside of 10 minutes, well everything but his fangs. I keep them on a necklass now.

My companion and protector for the last 4 years sits beside me, a wolf I found after it's entire pack was killed by poachers. His name is Cerberus. I found him when he was tiny, couldn't have been more than 3 weeks old, His milk teeth were just starting to come in. I fed him and gave him life, in return he watches over me while I sleep. He is a good friend, the only one I've had during this new life. He will fight beside me when she comes.

I turn toward the window and there she stands, no point in trying to sneak in I guess, we both knew that. She's as beautiful as that night so long ago when we danced our dance. She walks across the room and makes herself comfortable in the old chair that used to be mine. I reach into the cooler and pull out 2 beers, handing her one of them. Our fight will come soon enough, for now we relax and catch up on old times. We may be killers, but we're still civilized. We finish our beers, and our conversation. We meet in the middle of the room, embracing each other for the last time. We kiss and a tear falls from my eye. "We don't have to do this", she tells me. "We can stop this and live together in peace if you'll only stop the killing. There's other ways, blood banks set up by our kind."
"This is who I am now", I reply. "I am a hunter. I can't stop any more than they can stop breathing."

We release our embrace and walk to the opposite corners of the room. So be it then.

We don't fly, but we're amazing jumpers. Our feet leave the ground as we meet in the middle of the room again. The palm of her hand strikes me hard in the chest as I hit the ground, causing the floor boards to splinter under me. My foot comes up and pushes her to the ceiling, breaking the chandelier. I move just in time for her and the light to come down. She's up in a flash, but not before Cerberus gets his teeth into her shoulder. He tears a large part of her away as she screams, her shoulder smoldering from the bite. Funny the things you can get a dentist to do when his life is in your hands. She didn't know about the silver caps Cerberus was fitted with. She swings her good arm, catching him just under the rib cage sending him flying across the room. He lands with a yelp but he's up and tearing after her in an instant. I run back to her and jump on to her, she pulls out a small canister and sprays it at me. The garlic burns my eyes, causing me temporary blindness. Cerberus is back on her, biting clean through her arm. She turns and burys a splinter of wood into him. He collapses onto the floor with a pool of blood filling up around him. My friend lay dying. To my surprise she's back on her feet moving towards me. She jumps at me and I catch her. I pivot and send her through the wall behind me. She didn't know about the silver spikes I hid in the walls either. As she lay there, hanging on the wall, I walk over to her. For the first time since we met, I see her for who she truely is, she is my soul mate. She is the one I chase through every lifetime. I will chase her again, and I will catch her, just like every time before. Our souls tormented by this, it is our destiny. I kiss her once again as I watch the light slowly fade from her eyes. I love you my darling, and we will meet again soon.

I walk over to my companion and with a pair of pliers remove his silver fillings, he won't be needing them anymore. I remove the wood from his side and lean in and sink my teeth into his neck. I pick him up and bring him to the bedroom. I lay him on the bed, walk out and close the door behind me. When we wake tomorrow night he will be as good as new, well, better than new I guess. He will be part of me now, I'll have to retrain him to stay out of the sunlight now. Tonight he will feed on his first meal alone. But after that we will share our meals. He is now truely worthy of his name.

Please tell me what you think
