Red Wind

Missing image

Hello sweetheart
hows everything today
see the sun come up
I love you so much
this piece of my heart
right here belongs to you
no one can steal it no one
can take it away

Remember the day we found each other
the people were being so cruel to you
They did not understand
I had to be very careful
If the wrong thing was said
you would be gone

only 18 months old I could
hardly keep the anger from my face
I did though baby yes I did my face serene
voice calm as I watched you move
trying to get away from the pain
the bones in your legs not yet grown together

you bucked the woman off
and you began to run
trying to out run the pain
they had kerosene and chains on your feet
I almost cheered when you cleared the riding ring

Hard to listen as they cursed you
asked Amy if she was hurt
gave sympathy when I did not want too
kept watch for you from the corner of my eye

stable hand brought you around
you had been bought out of Alabama
Triple registered beautiful
even at your awkward age
The woman wanted to be a show rider
remember..and she had fear in her eyes
when she looked at you

Joe rode you then with spurs and a crop
he tied your head down I held back the tears
Leaving you was never an option he rode
until you were falling and bleeding from the mouth

I lost it then they had to call my husband
would not let anyone near you trying to get you on
your feet before you died.
He came in that big red duly
with our horse trailer

I knew when I saw the trailer
it would be OK we took you home.
I still don't know how much he paid them
we had pinto beans and kool aid for a long time

so it must have been a lot
they were scared of him he is a big man our hero

now ten years later look at us we have had so much fun
I love you so I always will
my Rocket my love my friend

I loved this poem about the horse - wonderful that you could save Rocket. I had a poem posted on here for awhile about "Shorty, Horse of a Different Color" but I must have deleted it, because I couldn't find it.
    Keep up the good writing.

    I love it.

Beautiful but sad. A really great write. Shoeing or breaking I always tried not to cause them pain. They only fight you. with colts, fifteen minutes was long enough for any session, always tried to finish on a high note.

I guess in order to understand this completely I would have to understand more about horses than I do [or terms used by horse afficiendos] What I did understand though is the one thing that we do have in common [our love and devotion for all creatures big and small] and that is worth more than anything else , for that is what speaks from the language of the heart,
    Blessed Be,

A beautiful story..I'm so happy this horse was so lucky to have found someone to care for him as you do..
Horses have amazing souls..I hate to hear of an animal being abused..I will never understand cruelty of any-kind..
Peace and love to you both..

How some try to break down a horse and take his spirt away so there is nothing left - how wonderful that you and your husband came to this one's rescue and you have been together now for ten years. easy to read and understand these lines - vivid visual images throughout the story told here. Bet you love this horse stealer to pieces! LOL
