Free Market Economy,
a government "for the people, by the people"...,
yet despite "every man being created equal,"
most lower tiered positions are held by people who are black,
in many cities,
violence is rampant,
as is poverty,
some cities have no middle class,
you are either rich or poor...
with little chance to move up.
America is heralded "the land of opportunity,"
yet where is the 'oppurtunity?'
I say they are no different from the monarchy they displaced,
the richer get richer, the poor poorer...
where is the American Dream?
Author notes
I wrote this after a trip to Philadelphia, drawing from what I had seen there, as well as in in Camden, Orlando, Minneapolis, Dallas and Montana/Washington as a whole.

From my experience this sense of things is probably most likely true. Being as old as I am, I think my point of view is a little more nuanced and of course it probably is, as yours will be someday but unfortunately for the most part I have found that things are pretty much this way.
Good Luck

For sale
that is the dream, for sale my friend and it is owned by big corporations, we went from "ask not what your country can do for you" to what about me. Yet they say we are a super power yet we can't feed or educate our own while we learn to laugh at what we call third world countries, the dream is a ghost i fear. Excellent work here my friend, Ironicly i wrote a poem titled 'The American Nightmare' your welcome to check it out... -
I agree with the comment a few below this; I didn't really find this very poetic, even though it was something to think about. As far as a poem goes, I felt it was more cliche than anything else..

Congratulations for voicing your opinion. I enjoyed reading throught this and agree with a great deal you have said, not only the US, but many countries who think they are the best. Every country has its downfalls, even the ones who think they are so great. Well done for this.

i am still searching for the english dream, when i find it i will see if it close by and if it is i will let you know

personally, i think it is people like you that cause so many of the problems in the US. we ARE a land of opportunity, a place of freedom. every man or woman with a strong will to succeed and the tenacity to struggle forward can reach whatever goal, dream, or desire they may have. it is true that we as a people have become far too obsessed with the almighty dollar, and yet the little guy very much still matters.
you say we are not free, i say if we werent, you would have been executed for writting this! lol.
i know we need work, but i think a solution would help more than yet another complaint. -

Perhaps that is true...but yet too much freedom has its vices as well...Thw us is instead of changing anything is going deeper and deeper into debt from not only the countrys costs but the so called 'peace keeping' in iraq. At the rate the US is going its going to end up like the monarchy of louis XVI, with so much debt that the economy going into a extreme depression....My attitude towards americans isnt the best...the saddest thing is...even if there was a solution the poiliticians are too corrupt to follow through on their promises...

I really get what you're saying in this. I find the states to be a very hypocritic place. They say that everyone is born equal with the same choices, yet the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, like you said. It's so sad. Hopefully that'll change one day.
