Tomis Treads Water Well

Missing image
He knows fish and women fling themselves
up and over stones to where darkness leads them
by desperate hand so Destiny can be filled.
He knows Fate’s fine fingers holding the nape of his shirt
while his feet tread air.  He does.  He knows
what is gold and what is fool, for he has tested them
with his teeth and a bright torch that defines
their fineness.  Oh, yes, he knows how to watch
for that piece of Godness in a good soul;
that flame that his hand reached out to touch
and was not burned.  Ah, yes, he learned well
in his fateful stumble into knee-deep water,
that sometimes you have to save yourself.

You know, tomisb has been my mentor and my friend for some years now, and I have admired and respected him like no one else in this lifetime.....

I have seen him in good and in bad, and everything you have mentioned here about him is so damned true it is scary; however, when one has a friend like tomisb, you know for sure that you will have him forever.....

I thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute of a magnificent friend with me and many others on this site.....

Be blessed with love, light and all things good.....

    Your friend,
    AngelicMistress...Tanya

my dear and beloved sister, friend/poetesse
only you can express in such eloquent words exactly what so many others [including myself] think of this man. He does walk on this Earth as someone that has well aquainted the night, but always walks and shares a light amongst so many people and he touches them where few others can. A beauty of a write. For me to think ........that I had two of those lights[you as well] so close to me is as if I felt the warmth and it lingers,
    much love always

Experience is such a swift teacher, but our Tomis has had an unusual amount of challenges to test his metal and humanity. Like others, I have been touched by his insight, heart, and extended hand. And he does tell it like it is. HE is a bright torch... and not easily extinguished! Love him to pieces!

Yes...he knows all of this and so much more. He is a bright star that shines even when the azure sky blends with the blue jay, and how to write poetry that tickles the spin. Our dearest is this and that of the cosmos, without ever leaving the ground. I pray he remains as level as the horizon, and never stops being the man he is.

This is a wonderful depiction of a man that is a wonder, and a gentle spirit. Thanks for writing this of our friend. Tom is the best!

    Much Love ♥

Ah, our friend Tom...Your poem captures him so well!
It amazes me...Just recently, I was feeling down and he sent me words to console me (which he often has) but this time, he really spoke to my heart giving me examples from his own experience...But, Tom is not only there when you need a friend, he is there when you didn't even know you did. So many times I began to feel sad or woke up in a mood, and there comes a sweet uplifting note to make me smile...Thank you for honoring our friend and a wonderful poet...

I once told someone that it was as though we were all on the shoreline, shouting encouragement...but that it was up to them to swim the distance. This is an immaculate tribute to Tom, my Friend. I see he loves it & well he should. Wanda

All the wisdom should perish from one moment of ignorance or foolishness. We are all a stumble away from the street. We are a mis-step away from the end of this journey. I have been at the edge of the night of no dreams more often then most. Your words catch a part of me that few can put into words, let alone see.

I am honored and deeply touched. I do not what, if anything, I have done, being me, to have you see so deep. That your words speak so much truth tells not only of me but of you as well. The winds that hold magic and the wells that let us see have crossed your soul and left tracks. My house is always open and my fire never cold should you visit. My strength is yours should you ever need.

    Love, Tom B.
