Last night while I slept
The snow came falling down
In large, white flakes
Covering our dirty, grey town
All night long it fell
Lazily and silently it lies
Still falling softly
Like cream on apple pies
Children, as they go to school
You can hear their laughter and calling
Their tongues tasting
Their hands snowballing
The clouds full of frost
The sky is high
The sun comes out
As the morning begins to die
The tall, dark trees
Loose their newly gained whiteness
The snow on the ground becomes dull
As it looses all its brightness
The childrens laughter become squabbles
The smog fills the air
Cars line both sides of the street
And people forget how to share
The evening falls
The snow flies again
It seems that when it comes
It rids the town of its pain

Beautifully written, I too was captivated by the 2nd stanza as Touch mentioned below. Just a wonderful write and well deserving of 3rd. It was so tough to pick between 2nd and 3rd for this contest... I wish I could have given two silvers. Congratulations and thank you for your participation.

I must admit that I got stalled a while at the lines...
All night long it fell
Lazily and silently it lies
Still falling softly
Like cream on apple pies
These lines have a strong appeal to the sense of sight, smell and taste. They add a wealth of imagery all on their own not to mention they make my mouth water.
Nicely penned. Good luck in the contest!
