It was early before dawn
the moonlight shines through the open window,
of the little log cabin, that belongs to a man,
with a broken heart.
He wakes from his lethargy,
to another grievous day which comes once a year.
Twenty years had gone by ,
and yet so much more than twenty grieving days.
He packs light for the long journey ahead
traveling three hours in the dark dreary cold
to visit where his hopes and dreams now lie
fifteen years of loving laughing memories now gone.
He lifts up the dry dead bud from the year before
and places a beautiful bouquet in its place
he kneels for what seems like days,
Tear drops run down his cheek
and come crashing down,
on the dark cold stone.
Like rocks crashing
in an avalanche
Flashing visions of screaming headlights
run through his mind
only wishing that he could have been behind the wheel
then maybe his dreams and hopes would still be alive..
Please tell me what you think

The form is brillant, especially the end.
"He packs light for the long journey ahead
traveling three hours in the dark dreary cold"
That set of lines are very clever and witty, they're my favourite.
The ending is so sad, I wasn't aware it was about those lost in a car crash until the very end. Wonderfully done poet.
