That day when all went silent,
That day when no one stirred,
That day when someone was murdered,
Was the day i was playing with cars.
A small innocent child,
I had no idea what had happened,
But I knew who had gone,
And I knew what she meant to the world.
I sat there playing with cars and animals,
As it flashed up on the news before me,
the woman's face her curt smile,
and then it was gone in a blur.
I realised what had happened,
I knew now why all the fuss,
This woman, this princess before me,
Had been murdered and why?
No one would tell.
Ironic wasn't it,
That I was playing with cars,
As the people's princess before me,
Was killed in an 'accident',
Involving a car.
I shall never forget that morning,
I sat there playing with cars,
looking up at the woman before me,
The Princess dead and gone.
Author notes
The morning I heard about her death, I was 6 years old, and playing with playmobile, cars and animals and a farm set, when it came up one the news.
