The Art of Teaching

I walk into the empty room
The thoughts of the previous inhabitants
Bounce off the walls
Somehow I have to make this place my own
I have to nuture the minds of young ones
This is my home away from home
For eight months of the year

Finally, the day arrives
I await anxiously in the empty
But colorful room
For my little ones to come
and listen intently to what I have to say
Their minds are mine to mold
In every possible way

This...it is my passion
Preparing children for life
Teaching them what is wrong and right
I want them to love learning
To love coming to school each day

The reward for my effort?
A feeling money can't buy
The children...they are priceless.

Yeah, I feel there a lot of teachers out there that are burnt out and therefore take it out on the children. They need a new profession

Aww, this is such a sweet and heartfelt poem. Thank you for expressing your passion in such a beautiful way. It must surely be a treasure to be able to mold these childrens' minds, and spend time teaching and even learning new things yourself, as an adult. Wonderful write! Thanks for sharing. Best of luck in my contest
