The Great Compromise

She stood before him and the throne
Her eyes defiant though her posture
Suggested that she was indeed heading down the path of defeat
She didn't love the man who stood before her, her groom his bride
He looked upon his watch and smiled
Soon would be the time
Of his wedding's climax
And he would rise up and conquer
All that had been denied to him...

    Chilling... I love the picture, and the poem goes with it excellently. The language is sort of bleak and bare, but it works really well. I'd love to know the rest of the story behind the last two lines...
