Stretch marks.

Missing image

Each and every one

of you have left your Mark on me,

Stretched with love and devotion.

All five,  I love you equally,

because I wanted you.

I chose you!

And as I trace each mark on my tummy

It takes me back…

I see your faces

Smell your newness, recalling

the smoothness of your skin

getting the urge to embrace

You closer, tighter to my heart.

I know all the crevices

and wrinkles that conceal the fluff,

the dimples on your bum.

Cheek on cheek I stroke you,

I close my eyes as if

I’m touching God

For what better feeling

Could I ever have?

You as part of me

bring home to me,

A part of you, my grandson!

And I stroke his cheek too

So I can go on touching God

As long as I can feel.

I,

as woman,

have the breathing taking privilege

Of sharing with God himself

The creation of life.

Author notes

opt 4

For my five gifts from God.

This dipicts my feelings for my own five children. one of whom gave me a grandson, i am so pleased to say that he too has left his mark on my heart and soul. So yeah i look upon my stretch marks as positive.

    This is absolutely beautiful!
My tummy used to be so flat and smooth... and with the luck of my mother's side of the family... I've been MORE than blessed with a BIGGER baby than the average. lol
So needless to say, my flat smooth tummy, is now a stretch mark-covered beach ball. lol

I cry sometimes because the stretchmarks are so deep, and some painful... and ofcoarse because they're not pretty... but I just have to keep reminding myself that with bad, comes good. So I guess that keeps me going.

Again, this poem was absolutely beautiful.
I really like how you referred to the newborn as if he/she were god.

I don't believe in the christian god, but with my wiccan beliefs, and how every part of nature is important and beautiful... it touched me.

Thank you so much for entering!
    Good luck!

The creation of life. True blessings of love expressed well bringing forth the fruits of your labours. Eight darlings of my own and hopefully they'll all make it with the mother's blessing (I hope you have a child just like you), which has also been known as THE CURSE.

    Ahhh sure now!

Isn't this just the darling poem of them all!...Im thinking just how wonderful it is...to have the power of Life..of Creation!...I too remember so well each of my five children as they were born...their first laughs..first words..first steps...I shared in every little landmark of their lives...what a privilege it was...and is!...Ahhh now Dolores you brought a tear to my eye...not of sadness mind!...but of happy memories...Thank you...Dan xxx

W O W... this is so beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes. I just found out I am pregnant. This being my 3rd but more excited then the first."I close my eyes as if I am touching God," really gets me. That is when the tears really start to flow. I know I am emotional the this point but these words in this write has made up the most beautiful thing I have ever read in a long time. Thank you so much for writing this. Pen on, mommy-poet...

    Beautiful!

I love the viewpoint on this poem... the grandmother's perspective, the connection between your baby and her baby. It's really awe-inspiring. And to call it "Stretch marks," something that is usually taken in such a negative context, brings this juxtaposition into the entire idea, this contradiction which is present in all of life, especially in this stage. I am really impressed. "I as a woman have the breathtaking privilege of sharing with God Himself, the creation of life." What a perfect end to this beautiful piece. You have connected the incomprehensible experience of childbearing with the incomprehensible God, and brought them into a clear-cut, awe-inspiring masterpiece which brings the darkness into light, the juxtaposed contradictions into complementary understanding. This is marvelous. Excellent work!
