/// and \\\

for Red Summer

part of me wants to come right out and say it
whenever there is
  a word
or
  a comment
or
  a solitary literary commentary
thats not worth a lick of my time
part of me wants to come right out and say it

yeah
bitch
yeah

its entirely possible for me to be
    ///saved///
and
    \\\gay\\\

but uh how can a christian
she stutters
how can a christian choose a lifestyle
so base

yeah
bitch
yeah

its entirely possible for a
queer to be here and fear
the lord

to say you can't be
  ///saved///
and
  \\\gay\\\
is like saying you can't be

jewish and a democrat
or
muslim and a blonde

yeah
bitch
yeah

because
    somewhere
  in      this
    c R  a  Zzz  Y  world
someone got it in their
head
that
  ///saved///
and
  |||straight|||
were somehow or other synonymous

but last time i checked the signification
this information - that the implication and connotation are as follows:
saved is not synonymous with straight

yeah
bitch
yeah bitch
what you got to say to that bitch?

i thought so.

Author notes

i just got done reading this really amazing book of poetry lent to me by ren by a poet named red summer. i was absolutely amazed and blown away with this "sister's" talent. she just...wow. there was a power in her words i haven't read in a long time. a good number of her poems are about glbtq issues too so i'm just following the theme. if you can get ahold of her books, do so. she's amazing.

    i liked this poem alot.... a fun read... adn so very fuckin true... i am straight but gays deserve everything i deserve i dont get the deal with the morality issue but i guess i'm not moral.. haha.... either way the lines i quouted were the absolute best in the poem i think adn show some very real poetic power in a form of poetry that i dont necessarily like too much ( given this form is dirtty pretty or whatever they call it?) sorry if im wrong and thats not the form of this poem at all im just guessing judging by the weird puncutation and capitalization.

      nah, you're right. and thanks. i'm glad you liked it. this was the first time i wrote a poem in this style; usually i do fairly free, unstructured poetry that's emotional and not so...harsh. but after reading the book of poems by red summer, i was like "man, that is a really cool style" so i tried it. i suppose it worked. ^_^
