Wild Cherry, Rum Cherry or Black Choke
A deciduous fast growing veneer
Bitter almond aroma the scent of your bark
Ever a sight to admire throughout the year
You flavor my brandy on cold winter nights
as I sit upon furniture made of you
And think of the musical instruments
tool handles & gun stocks of your beauty too
You grow in springtime so delicately in my dreams
Brilliance in fall colors is a show for my guests
Lowland and upland woods especially along streams
a gardener’s delight with an abundant harvest
Medicinal usage of your twigs, roots and fruits
A tonic from the Native Americans spreading far
Key ingredient in pemmican for the winter months
Fruit, meat and fat so that they didn’t starve
Glossy green leaves in shades of yellow and rose in fall
Beware they are poisonous to life stock
Grow 50 – 80” with a shape that is Pyramidal
Best black cherries ripened, when the birds and I flock
