upon toy shop shelf,
children rush by.
He thinks to self,
Jesus,
Would you please
send a child to love me.
I just want someone
to hold me close.
Snuggle at night,
kiss my little nose.
I don't mind
what color skin.
I don't even care
what color hair
or eyes.
Lord, I just want to be loved.
I want to share my soft fur,
to offer comfort from a furry friend
that will be there to the end.
Please, Jesus, send a child to me.
Amen
As teddy bear finishes his prayer
little boy comes down the aisle
looking all around.
Searching for something,
eyes, big and round, fall on teddy.
"MUMMY, Mummy, I found one. Oh!
I found one!"
Small hands reach up
wrapping around bear's tum.
Boy takes teddy from shelf
hugs him tight, turns to mum,
"Can I have him, please?
He is the answer to prayer."
One word is all needs said,
"yes."
Author notes
Inspired by my thoughts while looking at the Build a Bear Workshop website. I was thinking about what could/would a teddy bear think about and/or pray about.
For the all teddy bear contest I guess I chose topic #2- a teddy bear in a toy store.

Lovely write here
You know I do the same thing my muse I carry with me where ever I go and often a smalll tablet to write a poem down when one hits me . Great write here honey -
An adorable personification, indeed; I love how hopeful the bear is

Although, the ending is good but maybe clear it out? The words within those lines seem awkward but nevertheless, this piece is quite lovely

-
Aww. That was absolutely adorable! I loved it.
Write on.

If teddy bears could talk! I see many used bears when I visit thrift stores. I think of them not as lonely but pre-loved. Like pre-driven cadillacs
I collect teddies, but sometimes I donate them to The Highway Patrol or Fire Dept. Here, they use them to help children in accidents etc.
-
I name your bear Levi....
Oh, this should win gold! So heartfelt, so wrenching - what a wonderful ending! I feel that way when I go into used/RE stores or antique stores and see them cast away...I try to rescue those I can, especially those hand-made ones, like my Thaddeus.
-
This is wonderfully written I like the way you talk about the teddy bear. Wonderful flow of words and awsome detail to.

a truly sweet story-poem that touches my heart ... my husband told me today that a washing-machine is not a sentient being when I told him that it will be sad if we throw it away after all the loving service it has offered us throughout the years ... your poem confirms that a teddy is not just a piece of fluffy cloth, but a being with a soul ... a child would agree with both of us, but those grown-ups are so limited in their perceptions sometimes ...

thank you so much for sharing, and keep your childlike heart ...
happy new year !

I have such a teddy bear that has been with me since I was a new born. It is a wind up bear and plays "Farah Jaquis" or "Are You Sleeping" so I named her Farah Bear. She is now my son's companion. And yes, I think of her as a very dear friend. When I had my surgery my son brought me the bear and told me that I needed Farah more than he did right now. He was only 4 at the time.
