The night is dark and silent,
The air is cold and dank,
He writes her from a distant land,
while safe within his Tank.
A soft goodnight mailed to the moon,
She'll get it in a day,
When he cannot hear her voice,
its always said this way.
He Climbs into his sleeping bag,
'tis mystery hes told,
How the desert heat can kill by day,
but still at night be cold.
What he would give to hold her now,
Three thousand miles away,
where she is rising with the sun,
surviving yet another day.
He gazes through the darkness,
down at his calloused hands,
So cold that from his finger slips,
his silver wedding band.
He holds it to the moonlight
and then brings it to his lips,
A tear falls from his soft brown eyes,
as he gives it a kiss.
He shall be home again and soon,
No more they'll be apart,
As by her side he shall remain,
for every beat of heart.
But for now, he says goodnight,
and seals it with a kiss,
praying they can both withstand,
another day of this.

Touching
What a beautiful and hopeful poem! It is written in such a way that the reader can feel what both the soldier and his lady are feeling, and that is a gift to us all. It is also written with such love, I especially loved the ending.
God Bless the both of You -
wow... this poem describes it perfectly... just trying to get by day after day... waiting for a sparkel to come back into your life

I envy you not for what you are having to endure at this time. I say thank you to you and especially to your husband for the fact that he is over there fighting to help keep us a free nation. This touched my heart deeply and I want to say thank you for entering this piece. Best wishes in the contest with such a heartfelt entry. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family that you be together soon. Love and God bless, Joyce

Precious Poem
Speaks volumes to many who are apart!! Lover and husbands and wifes. Distance is dark and silent and then another day goes by so quickly. I felt sad for those couples. I also felt very warm in love is so precious. Thank you, beautifully written!!

A touching poem about a soldier and his wife, separated by thousands of miles ... yet joined by thoughts in moonlight.
"A soft goodnight mailed to the moon,
She'll get it in a day,
When he cannot hear her voice,
its always said this way."
Wish you a speedy reunion! ....JustBreathe
