Emotions running wild
Stripped of all color
Who would of guessed
The river that flows is crimson
Seeking some kind of acceptance
Pain stricken by being shunned
Traveling life, hiding out
Not allowed to love the opposite
Wrong, that’s the way the world is
Confusion sweeps the faces of the young
Hell confusion sweeps this face of this grown woman
Watching silently, as the sweetest of angels play
I wonder, what its going to be like, within a few more years
To trade places I would in a heart beat
Before I would allow her to walk heart pained
As my heart falls deep within that of a sorrowful mist
Tears streak my face, drowning my soul
I whisper my “I’m Sorry’s”, over and over again
To not see the beauty within
They only want to go against the outter layer
So all her life she will be stripped
By reflecting combinations of color
Shunned already, my daughter walks
Confusion of why, another child stays away

You have very poetically described the pain of prejudism. My favorite lines are:
Tears streak my face, drowning my soul
I whisper my “I’m Sorry’s”, over and over again
To not see the beauty within
They only want to go against the outter layer
How painful for a child to not understand why others won't play with them. It is a sad state when other children unknowingly and knowingly carry their own parents hate and prejudice.
This poem has touched my heart as I discuss daily the imporantance of acceptance with my children. Thank you for sharing.

i'm not sure why, but after all these years i still find myself amazed at the hatred so openly and subtly displayed - especially to our youngest fellow travelers here on earth. well put outrage.
on a secondary note, your daughter's cute smile i'm sure brings more smiles to those around, than ignorant hate.
thanks for sharing.

in the hands of the wrong people
words become dangerous weapons
Like knives they've spent time
to sharpen and hone
paring identity to color and tone
I hear your anger in this piece and agree, yeah.. unacceptable
Well-written and passionate

Holy moley!
But ,with respect, Is it wiae to put poctures of children on the net? On the UK, people are no longer allowed to take photos of school-plays - sad but good reasons.
If Texas is like that, leave Texas. I live in London, and here, for example, there is something bordering on a majority of ethnic people, including my 14 year-old grand-daughter. The only trouble she ever had, was with a large Bengali group at Primary school, who spoke in their own language. But she doesn't seem to give tuppence about the whole thing. And in a way, the future belongs to her, and her mixed-race friends.
I think this country really has been swamped by folk from all over, but that is not their fault, it is the fault of silly and weak governments. Remember you have Colin Powell Condi Rice, oh, and that other bloke....!

Its against the law to post pictures of other peoples children this ONE is mine. And only for use on ap and my poetry. No one has ever brought it to my atention so I will say I will look into your name for my security assurance. Anyone who would take children and post with any type of disgusting demeanor should be reprimanded. And I would be on that list to knock em for a loop. We take pictures of our families and friends in our schools. If anyone one that looks suspicious and does not have the legitimate papers to be on the school grounds would be reprimanded and searched into and all cameras and such taken.
Security is pretty tight and its a small community who has each others back
Thanks for your concern

Sorry
if I upset you. You must do what you think is right, of course. We have had some awful cases here, and I constantly worry about my seven grand-children. I shall not make the same mistake again.

Well, now we have a president of mixed race, as are many celebrities and athletes, etc.
To discriminate in this way is wrong and just plain silly.
Your daughter is beautiful, as I'm sure your other children are as well. When a painter paints, she always mixes the colors. They're subtler and prettier that way.

She is beautiful
I am sorry, but my eyes see only a child a very special young girl. I was taught never to judge and I do not. Respect and love belong to everyone equally to seperate or single out for any reason is unforgivable. I was taught and believe we are all one in the same and she is beautiful. A precious child and one day a beautiful woman. No different than any other except she is yours. I love you and you know I will love her. Always yours heart, mind and soul, Love Rick

If I might offer a different perspective and glimmer of hope for the future, my daughter is also of mixed race, as are SO many other people's children that I know. I hope, and suspect, that although there will always be ignorance, and stupid jerks in the world, soon enough, a mixed background is going to be the majority and the norm. Our daughters are smart, beautiful, talented, gifted, respected and admired in society! Maybe not by every body, but those who don't, aren't worth the thought, their time will come, and they will face the ways of their stupidity! We simply love, support and encourage the success of our daughters, our children...this is really a beautiful expression of your torment about this issue, but beautiful lady, with the beautiful daughter, hope for the promise of a brighter future, and not one so ignorant as now, for our daughters, and other children, will be the leaders of their time! We have the power...let her learn from the child that stays away, and hopefully, that child will learn the err of their ways in the future and not follow the paths of their parents.
Smile!

Michele

I'm really sorry but I put in the rules that option 10 was closed. I feel bad about Disqualifying this because it looks like such a sweet poem. You are more than welcome to enter in another option if you want. I'm sorry again

Listen here Tory, I married a Hispanic Woman, I have a half breed son myself. Your children are your children, no matter the color, creed, sex, they come with you. It's a package deal and one I am willing to take on, you have no reason to fear this. I Love You, and I will Love your children as well, no matter what. If I can be the father they need in their lives then God has Blessed me with more than you can imagine...Scott

WoW ~~~ First let me say that I ever saw a more beautiful child.
Your words are strong and full of emotion.
Your words come across so clearly.
Combination of color, my family is full of that.
Then again why should it matter.
Again she is a very beautiful child of God's
Great piece of poetry,
thanks for sharing.
Loveandblessings2u & yours always
