Childhood Fantasies

Feel the sorrow of a withered rose
And soon the beast comes along
Beholds the tears of a young beauty
And fixes everything wrong

But in reality of what is not fake
The beast has a heart of stone
For the beast is a man in society
Who leaves the beautied woman alone

Take a gaze at Snow White
She's helped by dwarves of seven
Then awoken by a handsome prince
With a kiss instead of heaven

But surely you could know what's true
The prince is merely a lie
The help a person recieves stops short
And they're given wings up in the sky

Skip along down the yellow brick road
Seeking guidance from Great Oz
He'll hand you a wish in sparkly red shoes
And you'll give praise and applause

But surely you must really know
That the path of life is the road
Those shoes won't make wishes come true
Only add on some extra load

So turn your attention to Cinderella
She found her prince of perfection
Her life was going oh so wrong
But turned to a wonderful direction

Little girls can only hope
They want to find the man of their dreams
But the fairy tale cannot be found
For reality be not what it seems

Alice fell down the rabit hole
Finding a world of wonderful affairs
Only finding fun and games
In every chance she dared

The real story is not so fun
They're realistically on drugs
There is illusion in the merriment
Like saying gang members are not thugs

Fairy tale is unique to the world
They make life sugar coated
Every situation turns out perfect
So viability is called easy when noted

A fairy tale is but a fantasy
A fantasy is but a dream
So what young ones come to believe
Is realities fake schemes

Author notes

Written on August 23, 2007

I got this idea from reading poetry by some other writers who took fairy tales and told them for the truth, so I figured I would do my own version to see how it came out.

Note: Stanza 10 line 4 doesn't really fit well, I couldn't think of anything else.

Please tell me what you think
