The scariest feeling of the reserved,
The hesitation of all things new.
Relearning how to speak once more,
You feel small, like the walls are caving in.
Its the first day of school again.

Author notes

I had to write a 5 line poem for English class Thursday (aug 23rd) and I just scribbled this down during lunch. I didn't know what to write about. I've always been very shy when around people i don't know and its hard to actually walk up to somebody and just suddenly start talking and becoming friends. and unfortunately most people don't bother trying to get to know a shy person. and ironically when i'm with my friends i talk a lot like i dont shut up lol. so its been hard to actually make friends in school.

Please tell me what you think

    wonderfully captured

    Really nice job Ess.
    Short & to the point (how unlike you) and summed up all so well in the final phrase.

    I think there can be many reasons why shy people can become quite talkative.

    They can be lonesome; trying too hard; attention deprived; have a lot to make up for; possibly have the freshest breath in town; be prone to verbal diarrhea; have more profound contributions to make than most other people because of their continual verbal abstinence; want to prove that they do know how to communicate; are really tired of looking like a mannequin; feel a need to excercise their mouths as fully as possible when opportunities do present themselves; foster phobias that keeping one's mouth closed for long periods of time may cause bucktoothism; have grown tired of always pretending to be on their cell-phone; feel a need to prove they can be just as stupid, pretentious and self-centered as everybody else; show off those new braces; compare gum brands;

    And the number one reason for a shy person to suddenly become talkative is (drum roll)......

    A new tongue piercing... now you're cool!

    Sometimes, I can get talkative but mostly I find it just makes my throat sore... so I try to communicate more with grunts and gestures now. My boss aint so keen on it. (He thinks a variety of gestures would be better than always getting the same one all the time.) Sometimes I take it out the keyboard like now.

    Oh, and I'm fine by the way. Thanks for asking. How's it going with you and please... keep it short. I know how you DO GO ON!

    Kudos,
    Kj
