Those of clear water clean, serene, the thrill of nature too,
For as a child love came my way, forever reigned supreme,
Yet nothing could prepare me for ways you unlocked those dreams.
You never knew you were the one, perhaps you never will,
For silence is a subtle key and you my friend, had skill.
Not speech but actions woke my soul - sent spirit soaring free,
You shared your love in sweetest song with thoughts I felt fit me.
You led me down a country lane to river and sea shore,
Through scented woods or through blue skies ~ all this and so much more ~
You took the maiden, made her see the woman she’d become,
Your lyrics shared perfection’s soul in which joy could succumb.
Each night I’d team in your embrace, dreams tracing all your words,
Your tunes would soothe as lullabies ~ sweet song of mockingbirds.
My road in life would take a turn and I would write poems too,
I’d share soul places I had been, propose a novel view.
A poet’s heart can never keep those secrets locked away -
Thanks, dear, are due, I found this true, some thoughts none may allay.
A simple start - but in my heart the first of many more -
I thank you now, in my own way, for opening that door.
The years have passed and we’ve moved on, the way that people can
Profound, unbounded, love I found within a gentle man !

Author notes
I had come across an idea to write a letter to someone that entered your life in a casual way but had taken you to new heights. This is my dedication to the special someone who did just that through his lyrics and songs! I began writing poetry ...

Poignant!
"To You...(the poet)"
This is a Paean! A Universal rendering to the One along the way who may or may never know the impact that they have had upon our lives.
In reading this Poem "To You...(the poet)" I felt as if You were speaking to All the Poets everywhere in the Chain of Mother Poet's Ring that have in some way willingly and unknowingly contributed to the embarking and continuing along the Poet's Universal Track.
Thank you for sharing this profession of admiration and gratitude.
Wishing you the best
till next time,

Hello.
A truly touching tribute to the gentleman who inspired you and so much more. Wonderfully written with nice rhyme and rhythm. Almost musical at times, the way it flowed, and there was no doubting the high esteem that you hold the gentleman in. An excellent mix of emotion and imagery. Congratulations on your Honourable Trophy.
My regards.

Beautiful!!!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful declaration, Joy. I love this line:
"A poet’s heart can never keep those secrets locked away -"
You've written a masterpiece!

-
deep and thought provoking...
Best wishes and good luck

Nothing I can really say other than exceptional, but being a worthless and long winded blow hard (isn't that some kind of double negative?)
I'll keep writing.
I'm not sure what I like more, that you appreciate this relationship, or that you understand it's value. If we are attune to it, great people come into our lives...and they aren't always the philosophers or poets or makers of millions, they may be the simple fellow who shows us things that have no value on Wall Street or in the tabloids. I have learned from and loved people who have taight me the small things, honesty, decency, humility, and sub-sets of all of those...I mean things seemingly intangible, but which I know the value of...
Anyway, I really like the poem, more than this poor comment shows.

Suggestions
The second to the last stanza beginning with "a poet's heart" could use a revision. The "dear" and "due" and all is just more clumsy than the rest of the poem. For me it was a departure that made me slow down and lose the flow. That would be my only suggestion. The poem is moving as is, but if you are looking for perfection, that's the only direction I can point you in. -
Whoa.
Deep, moving, profound, heart warming, sentimental, and in the end, sad. I feel sad. Why do we move on? Why can't we hold on to that sweet moment of the perfect complimentary space between two people? I guess its so we will meet others...but sometimes we never find another moment like it, do we? As a musician and songwriter I felt myself switching back and forth between the narrator and the subject of the poem. Nice journey. Thank you, again!

An early influence!
I started on the wrong foot there thinking the poet was yourself and that in the first verse you spoke of saving those memories for the poet to express. Quickly caught on though.
Your poetry itself is a tribute to this unnamed man for your expression was both beautiful and powerful.
A great self descriptor in there "I'd share soul places I had been, propose a novel view" I have a guess as to the artist but it really does not matter as you described his influence so well.
I liked the line also "You took the maiden, made her see the woman she'd become,". So glad you found such a good influence early in your life. He did indeed take "you to new heights" Jadon

-
This is beyond excellent. I would have sworn this man was your lover but yes or no this tribute to him is truly wonderful. Anyone who can inspire one to write such poetry has to be worthy of my admiration and applause. Best of luck in the contest.
Sincerely,
Leo Long

An excellent dedication to the person who inspired you and awakened your muse. Lovely flowing lines and rhyme. I have reservations about the last line in the first stanza, though--it doesn't scan right to me. Apart from that, a great job.

Excellent and atypical - not only for AP but as an inspiration to all. A work of art and sensitivity all should bookmark and include within timeless anthologies. Ronsard's Hélène Romeo's Juliet, Shakespeare's dark lady and all their peers would blush with jealousy of and joy for this soul song. To be spotlit again and again as mere words fail to convey the beauty shining within and through these lines.
