A formal assault on the gentle sensibilities
Of a bygone age too stubborn to die.
We are mere Creators, with our brushes and chisels,
Our quills and our pianos, our weapons unsheathed.
Listless warriors polish armored shoulders
And grease wooden wheels of awful chariots,
Feed stale oats to giantess mares, steaming nostrils,
Black-eyed and intent on trampling innocents.
And tormented souls shamble in the hold.
Olive branches pierce my temples,
While clever dice are tossed for my purple clothes.
But I am no savior, have no time, just got no time.
Whispered advice from afar threatens to deafen:
Impolitic gestures upon a plated pulpit
Mean nothing, no, nothing, in these impotent days:
We languish in debts, favor half-remembered histories.
The myths that we shatter with well-intentioned ideas
Arise from library-side ashes, a collective phoenix
Come to haunt the givers of iniquity,
Whose champing jaws are slick with treachery.
The irony, thus, completes a cycle:
How blind can we truly be
When inside our hearts beat complaints in mid-tempo
To remind us that the Abyss is right there
In front of our feet?

Yeah, kinda out there, but let it sink in. Or make repeated visits, increase my views. Thanks!

Rock!
i wish you wouldn't be so hard on yourself. this is the fourth poem of yours i've read and they are all lovely. i don't know who is burrowing into your brain, but kick them out. you're good. you're better then good. lovely. -
excellent
I love your championing of the "myths"....there is too much effort expended these days on critiquing and tearing down...with nothing offered to fill the breach left in the heart. Without our noble beliefs and intentions, I am afraid of what we may become. This is a wonderful and thought provoking piece of poetry. I will be back...it has much that requires chewing.

Bravo
I think I thought a thought I thunk
You amaze me once again - What a well written group of minds eye... You bring me to a place of heavy thinking - How nice it is to see this corner of my mind once again - You are very talented in your ability to get your thought to paper and allow others to understand you!

Very well written. How quickly you can capture such a clear image....
And tormented souls shamble in the hold.
Olive branches pierce my temple,
While clever dice are tossed for my purple clothes.
But I am no Savior, have no time, just got no time.
Thanks -
hmmm..it is a wonderfuly put together peice. I won't pretend that I get every word you wrote, or that I agreed with everything I understood, but it was incredibly well crafted. Great job.
