All My Doves Have Left Me

All My Doves Have Left Me

You cannot drown on sorrow
                        for
it is too thick to swallow whole

It must be choked down piece by piece
leaving the airways cut off

Darkness cannot devour you
                        for
we humans are too fluid;78% water

We must be sucked down in ravenous gulps
tasting of salty tears, cavernous fears

You cannot shed your skin
                        for
our shells are too thick with pride

We must be cracked open in agonizing manners
like side walking crabs, or mollusks

Alas, all I can say is this...

when I learned to love I choked
when I lost it, I drowned
I was devoured, coughed up
and cracked open like some legume
only to see in the end...

All my doves have left me

I love the title of your poem !! Seriously, Billie Jean... this one touched me - and I know you'll understand why... all our doves have left us, but perhaps they left a few coos behind... This touched me with its sadness - that choking, drowning sadness - yet it is still beautiful, elegant, poignant and again.. beautiful. Hugs to you...

When you told me that on a few occasions, it touched me. So when I started to pen...those words appearred in my mind. Thank YOU for sharing such beautiful words. Yes this is sad, but us poets find beauty in sadness don't we? Hugs to you my dear friend. I am so happy you liked this.

      Love andlight,
      Billie Jean

This is such an amazingly powerful write! So well composed, the flow and breaks in line add so much feeling to these painful bursts of emotion. So often we feel that we lose a part of ourselves, when another walks away... But in actuality we can only hope to gain the knowledge that can make us whole. I adored this piece!!!
