Inheritance.

I did not really leave you to face this world alone,
for as long as you remembered, I was always there.
My form no longer physical, as is flesh and bone,
although you cannot see me, I am a spirit of the air.

I bore you with a wondrous love, as infinite as space,
a love that grew eternal, so strong it could not die
from when I first held you and saw your infant face.
Today it still is with you, it will not say goodbye.

That love reached out for stardust to place within your hand
the silver hope of moonbeams, the smile of summer sun,
and though I had to leave you, please try to understand
I left every joy I’d ever known, just for you, my son.

I am the sunshine between the April showers
the golden rays of dawn, igniting early dew,
I am the rainbow, the colours in the flowers
the softness of the tumbled clouds, in a sky of blue.

Mine are the soft wind fingers playing through your hair,
I am a gentle touch of warmth on your beloved face,
the echoed sound of blackbird song, suspended in the air,
the secret whispering in the trees around my resting place.

I shall always walk beside you; you will never have to call,
Though I cannot leave my footprints in freshly fallen snow,
I will leave you messages where frosty puddles fall
I am the brightest guiding star that shows the way to go.

I am but the ghostly form of a mother and a wife,
but I leave to you, my dearest son, the joys
that were my life.

Author notes

This, like the four other poems here, is not new and has been published here before. I'm just trying to awaken my "poetry mode" out of a long and deep sleep.

This is beautiful. My favorite line was
"I shall always walk beside you; you will never have to call" Because I think thats the most comforting thing that you can say to someone whose loved one has passed on. I also liked this whole verse because of the collection of images

Mine are the soft wind fingers playing through your hair,
I am a gentle touch of warmth on your beloved face,
the echoed sound of blackbird song, suspended in the air,
the secret whispering in the trees around my resting place.

    Thanks for the read
    Sarah

This poem reminds me of you really, the way you've come back to finish off the poetic ability, you have discovered for yourself. An inheritance to us all knowing you've returned. Lovely phrases,

Titus, I have not been ignoring you and I feel very bad about the lateness of this reply.

I have just had the engineers out to check my telephone line - I am on dialup - because apart from taking anything up to five minutes to change pages - the connection kept dropping after a few minutes.

Thank you for your comments - with a bit of luck my visits to this site may become more frequent - and who knows - my poetry muse, long absent, may even return.

      Thanks again. :-)
