On a still lake
I watch a fisherman
trying to outsmart a clever fish
to the right
are trees and land
unchanged in a thousand years
to my left
the blue of the sky
reflected as clouds on the still water
I am calm
just holding thoughts
thinking of today and tomorrow
the words of the ages
come to me, mixed in my mind
words of the great, playing in Plato`s Republic
for so long
I have acquired thoughts
assembled the pieces as a collection
creating beliefs
sorting out the truth
discovering the workings of man
in all of this
there is a sad ending
some day I will go blank
the stories will be gone
the memories will fail to exist
even my precious thoughts of love, lost
it takes so long
to truly find ourselves
so sad we can not go on forever
perhaps
I should just go fishing
and try to catch that clever fish

I've only been fishing once. I was eight or so, it's too much waiting and thinking. It's good though to meditate and stuff, clear your head while you wait for the clever fish to bite. Perhaps I'll try again (fishing) soon.
-
yes your right my friend
life is short
why not go fishing

-
Loved it!
Sounds like you are right, you think too much! I am also guilty of this annoying habit
I loved your conversation with yourself. Excellent!

-
I always told you that
" sometimes you think to much "
But that's ok Mr.
I have many memories that I am going to hate to forget, having you as my special friend is just one of them.
but I have many that I can't wait to forget LoL.
I guess we can always go on in life wondering what the next day will bring, but it is true that we never really know what is in store for us. My mom will turn 82 years old on Feb. 14 and she remember everything, but me I can't remember what I did yesterday. Maybe I should go fishing and catch that clever fish.
I love your poem Mr. You continue to amaze me.
Loveandblessings2u & yours always

You have shared with us a moment in time, a throught put to verse. Trouble with thinking it reflects on us; I see you, me,myself and I as that clever fish. That one day the BIG GUY is going to pull us in from the lake of life. You have done an amazing write once again and it to is about love. The love of life. You talent is brilliant...write on!.....

I really like this. And these words capture just what I think about how we learn and grow in our life:
for so long
I have acquired thoughts
assembled the pieces as a collection
creating beliefs
sorting out the truth
discovering the workings of man
I love words, it's just a thing with me, and you have a very good command with words. Exellent!
I do believe we go on forever though...perhaps wishful thinking...perhaps not. Pam

Hi Pam
I think we all hope we go on forever
In time we will all have the chance to find out
I love words as well, I try to make them do my bidding
Thank you for your thoughts

This is a wonderfully written and thought provoking write. I love the imagery that is created with the use of your words. A peaceful scene indeed. There is so much depth. Very well done.

Great Insightfulness
This is not about fishing as such, more memory chasing, ones that are worthwile, looking for partner, a better job, and sounds much like someone not happy with their pesent situation, what a magical array of pleasures or leisures to play about with, such are your enjoyable words, much to the dissapointment of these individuals in question.

Great insite into my words

Aside from my dread of death, I am calm in all ways
Always, I crave my love

if one refuses to act as a human,
get all human reasoning out of the mind, become radical enough to ask why we are allowed to use only 10% of our mind, and ponder on these things, after a while one will rebel against death, hell, and the grave come to the truth and will be set free from all bondages. [Whom the Son has set free is free indeed]
This quote goes much deeper than just being free from what people call sin. As you will know these in church are not free but chained to the pews like cattle, afraid to make a move without first asking their minister- pay them 10% of their wages-ect- I could go on forever. Did you ever wonder why I do not look my age? Because I have been set free from time perhaps by my radical revelations. Yes Rick we can go on forever
if we truly find ourselves.
smile-always smile,
Judy

Hi Rick,
I now know the scene you write about, can easily picture it in my mind. Funny how something like that can bring on such deep thoughts of our lives and what will or won't be remembered. This is a somewhat melancholy write, filled with deep reflection. I almost hate to say it, but this might be a new favorite. I agree with what Michelle wrote 100%. The words we write are our memories and thoughts committed to paper and a legacy we can pass down to the generations who come after us.
Wonderful work on this, but who played spelling fairy before I got here?
Much love,
~J.

Hi Trista
A few people helped me with the spelling
Mabey I am becomming a better speller... cool
So pleased you liked this
I know you liked the view, I miss you
I am always reflecting, asleep or awake

Very Keatsian...the imagery is good. You made a typo with Plato's Republic, forgetting the apostorophe, but that is nothing. I just thought I would point it out. I also like the ending.

I fixed the typo, thank you very much

Your creation of life, love, deep thoughts touched me as I read. I felt like we should live for today and pray that tomorrow is better then the day before. You amaze me with this very clever write. It reminded me of my Fathers' words of wisdom...He was a minister..
you are the man of reality in all you compose....write on!.................novy

This is so very wonderful..I would have to say this is one of my favorites , I adore the ending...
Perhaps we could all use a bit of fishing..
Beautiful reflections ....
Peace

You could never say too much with this poem. Stnding there pondering life, we never seen to get wise enough till it is really to late, and our death is near. I think time to go fishing just to enjoy what time we have left is a wonderful idea! Thsi poem had so much sincerity, and truth to it. Thank you for sharing this with me ~Sie

All the perponderances in the world are futel and sometimes useless
All we can do, is enjoy the moment we are living and add another memory to our collection
Thank you for your comment

I felt a bit sad as I read this piece,
because I often feel this way also.
But as I read on and came to your ending
it made me smile.
I guess we can say that life is just going
to be whatever it is at any given moment.
So I guess we really do have to cherish
our todays and pray for tomorrow.
This is a touching piece of wonderful poetry.
Keep writing Mr, don't let time get the best of you.
You be the clever fish...

Hi Joyce

Hi Rick.
I can clearly see the picture you have painted here, so lovely. Yes, in our lifetime we learn many lessons and have many experiences. I feel like by telling our stories and writing our words, when we are gone, not all is lost, as we have also spent our lives sharing our legacy. Some of us it is true our stories get lost with us, however by sharing ourselves, putting ourselves out there, our memory and lessons are passed on. You have done this well, I am quite sure your legacy will live well beyond your years...with your book or hopefully books, your daughter and her children, everyone else who loves you, your friends, and all of those you listen to so well with your compassionate ear. You touch many lives, I know you have mine.
much love,
Michelle

sending you rod & reel loved it!
the stanza ...to the right are trees and land unchanged for a thousand years and the stanza the words of the ages come to me, ...
connected me to your poem, their infinite presence,
When I am in a empty place I always seek out a river
or place of water and trees and somehow their
quiet presence soothes, calms, and feeds my spirit.

perhaps you do. and its inscribed all over your face. though i don't see how it could be considered "too much" if it concludes in productive reasoning and a thought provoking write. which this indeed is. i suppose that's what i like about this piece. its a pure seemingly uncensured product of thought. towards the end you make some potently true observations...how it will all disappear eventually. even still, odds are your words will carry on long after you're gone to seed thought in possibly a great many young minds. so yes, go and catch that clever fish or at least try. another write such as this is almost sure to follow. excellent expression.

Thoughtfull comments are rare
therefore I will give you some time
I read a few of your own words
You are very thoughtfull as well
I wonder sometimes how much farther we would be along the path
if the great minds of the past could go on
As it is, everything is lost and reaquired with each generation
Were it not for this, perhaps we would be moving about with transporters, instead of metal cars.
We have made limited progress since Pathegram time
This machine I type on is no better than a crutch
and we remaine to this day, just hairless fancy animals.
The greatest discovery of this age, will be the ending of the deterioation of the cell membrain.
The end of death and ageing
I regret we are still 30 to 50 years away in chemestry and Bio engernering
Thank you for your thoughtfull Comment

Nice meditative poem.
